Villa is not an option

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Valencia forward and Spanish international David Villa (26) is not on Barcelona's centre forward list.

Villa would not fit the profile Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola is looking for (read more here).

Barcelona nonetheless made some contacts to know about the situation of the player, but didn't go further when hearing the asking price and the names of the other interested clubs.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona is still weighing the pro's and the contra's. The facts that Guardiola is looking for a more physical striker and that Villa has similar qualities to Barcelona player Bojan Krkic whose progress could be blocked by the transfer would play against the arrival of the Valencia centre forward.

Madrid sports tabloid As meanwhile claims that Valencia is willing to sell the player for 40 million euro° and would prefer to do business with Barcelona rather than with Real Madrid, who could go after Villa if a transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't be possible. Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain has already talked with the player's agent without reaching any agreement.

a crazy suggestion...keep eto or buy villa, and buy a jan koller for the bench to unlock blocked game when needed, he is cheap, tall, old but yet have the hunger,he can be used for one season giving the chance to barca to scout for their perfect striker for future next season, preparing the budget for that...it feels that this year their wouldnt be good strikers to b baught for reasonable prices...lot of people critisized buying larsson when he was signed...hm...i dont think this is a popular suggestion...;)

i don't understand what we would need a strong CF for? No club with a strong CF got anywhere so what make pep think we're gonna need one? A swap of Villa for Eto'o would be the only thing in my mind that's anywhere near reasonable. If he's claiming that Bojan won't progress because of a Villa transfer, then what? He plans on starting Bojan over anyone else he would get? I just hope Pep doesnt regret his decisions, and that no matter who he signs, he can make them into a championship team! Go Barca!

I hate to tell you guys I told you so, but, "I told you so." There I couldn't help myself. I knew the second Guardiola mentioned the word "complimentary" striker exactly what he meant. And low and behold he stole the word right out of my mouth, a "physical" presence upfront. That statement had "Adebayor" written all over it! Now, wether he comes to Barcelona is anyone's guess....

As for Huntelaar, he's tall and angular, nowhere near as strong as Adebayor. You just question if he's THAT good playing in a lesser league against lesser competition. Would he have the same amount of impact playing on a much grander scale against stronger competition. At least Adebayor is battle tested, posting big numbers in one of the top leagues in the world. I'm not saying Huntelaar's less talented, heck he's probably even more talented than Adebayor! But he's very much an unproven commodity, while Adebayor looks more like the sure thing.

Call me crazy but for LESS than 40mil I'd rather have Guiza and Sergio Garcia. Guiza's tall, 5'11 (by Spanish standards), granted he's not the most physical player but he'll do quite a bit of running for you. Not the most consistent finisher but he does find the back of the net. More of a standing target type scorer. Garcia's a "shifty" "slithery" player who brings good pace and good touch. Maybe not so much a finisher but a good set-up man. Perhaps could play a little at the wing as well.

Translation: Villa is too expensive. But also, we have enough short guys with great ball skills.

Look, Gudjohnsen, when playing up front, was scoring a goal every other game or so. And we all know what a quality striker he is.

Any central forward in our system, with our feeds, will score goals. Bunches of them. The trick is not to overpay for someone. At the right price, Adebayor is the goods. Don't forget that he was a solo striker at Arsenal, with most crap feeds, and he was still scoring goals in bunches. Toss Messi, Xavi, Keita and Iniesta in the frame and suddenly, life isn't so hard for a big, strong, fast striker such as he.

But the price has to be right.
