Mascherano is next transfer target

Catalan sports papers Sport and El Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona will next week start moving to sign a midfielder.

Both papers report that Liverpool defensive midfielder and Argentine international Javier Mascherano (25) is still on top of the wish list (read more here). It seems at this moment nevertheless very unlikely that Liverpool will be willing to sell the player or that Barcelona has the financial means for the transfer.

Sport claims that, in case Mascherano isn't bought and no alternative can be found, Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would accept to postpone a midfield signing until the January transfer window.

Guardiola is meanwhile quoted as saying in an interview with British television channel
Sky Sports that signing the Argentinian is unlikely: "Of course we know Mascherano, he's a huge player. But he's also at a huge team, with a great manager in Benitez. And if he wants to keep Mascherano, then it is a problem."

I don't think Liverpool will sell him particularly if Alonzo moves to Madrid. Even if we do move for him, he won't be cheap and we would have to sell before we can raise more funds to buy him.

Do we really need him that much to spend b/w 30-35 million euros?? He is Argentina captain and I know Keita and Yaya will be at the African Cup of Nations.

I just wonder if there would be a cheaper alternative that could see us through that tricky period of fixtures.

Busquets?? 30M is way too much from Mascherano,we can get some other players with that money.

does barca even have enough funds for this move? after the ibra-eto'o transfer i presume we dont have that much left.

on another note, not sure how reliable the site was but on one other blog they had a story saying barcelona might make a bid for luca toni. because bayern bought mario gomez (wish we got him) luca toni is no longer needed and moved to bayerns b team. and pep is now interested and because of him being in the b team, he might be quite cheap.

Yes, Mascherano would be amazing. We need to put some pressure on his wife as she hates living in England, and we need to sell them the Barcelona lifestyle. Imagine Mascherano as DM and Yaya in a more offensive role as CM where he can use his offensive firepower! We would see Bilbao and Tottenham goals every other week and long range missiles in between!

I don't think we need him.

Especially with Yaya being soo good, but if do get him we could use Yaya as a CB, he showed alot of promise in that position when we played against Chelsea.

I think we really need to focus on getting some quality back ups for Inesita and Xavi.

I'm more of the opinion, this Masch interest is more to scuttle RM's bid for Alonso as I've read RM already made a 35mil bid for and L'pool are still not budging. As the report said after the Ibra deal, we have little money left so unless we offer a player in return (swap), I doubt we can get him this time around.

Get MIGUEL VELOSO (Sporting CP).

Veloso is not good enough for us! Get Chygrynskij fast! He has similar style as Beckenbauer.

Fabregas is the best option for the midfield. He knows exactly how Barca plays, he is young and will be the perfect replacement for when Xavi is too old. Until then Iniesta can play on the LW.

We need two players in the role of attacking mid and defensive mid. Now that Hleb is going, we don't have backup for Messi. So, bring Affeley. A winger would be a better option.

I just read in a greek article that barca is very close in signing Dmytro Chyhrynskiy for something more than 15mil Euro. This would also open exit door for Caseres (http://www.sport-fm.gr/article/187192)

First choice for Pep is a defensive midfielder.

But will Liverpool sell if Xabi goes to Madrid? Don't think so.

And Busquets managed to be the DM in the CL final for gods sake.
But who will take his place if he gets injured?

I think if we get him, we will have more problems than the team without him. Masch is a very good player and he doesnt want to sit on the bench. So its either Toure or Masch. As for as the midfielder we need, we have can either buy a cheap, experienced guy or a raw, talented holding midfielder. The first case would be like he is at the end of his career so he can warm the bench and come up in times of need like slyvinho the other season. As far as the later case is concerned we can have another midfielder who is learning, so he doesnt mind warming the bench. My whole point of the discussion is we cant have 2 stronger/great player for just 1 position, and we dont need a Great midfielder or a 30 million midfielder for just 2 months.

Patrick Vieira could come cheap. However, there will probably salary issue. (Assuming his salary at Inter is high).

I know it's a gamble. Just saying...
