Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona doesn't see São Paulo attacking midfielder and Brazilian international Hernanes (23) as a priority summer signing and is therefore not willing to pay the 25 million euro° buyout clause, which is asked by his club (read more here).
Barcelona has made a first bid of 12 million euro° and the player now hopes that Barcelona will come with a seriously higher offer that could convince his club but at this moment it's not very likely a possible new offer will be a lot higher.
São Paulo manager Muricy Ramalho meanwhile said in an interview with Brazilian radio station Jovem Pan that the case should be resolved soon: "It's not good for the player that they say to him that he can come but that they then don't make a decision. I hope that a firm offer arrives for him to go and play abroad and that they stop driving him crazy by now saying one thing and later another."
Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Hernanes doesn't have an passport of a European Union country, which shouldn't be a problem since Barcelona still has some non-EU spots available.

Don't blame Barcelona blame Sao Paulo! Barcelona made an offer of 12mil and last I checked I didn't see any other clubs beating down their door to sign him. And if the team refuse to sell him they are doing a disservice to not only Hernanes but themselves as well! Consider that the lads already 23, and the longer the club holds onto him the lower his value gets with each passing day. Also the club is thwarting Hernanes development by not allowing him to play in a bigger, better league where he can improve upon his skills. Continuing to play in an inferior league that he already dominates is not going to make him a better player! He needs to play against the top players in the world if he hopes to become a world class player himself. Sao Paulo is looking out for their own interests and not the lads! In the end they are going to be hurting themselves just as much by refusing to sell.
Exactly. Smaller teams are notorious for viewing larger teams as money baskets come a'callin'.
As soon as we tapped for Hernanes, Sao Paulo suddenly said that they have this insane valuation, and if we pay it, off he goes.
Nobody is going to pay 25 million Euros for an untested player. Remember that Robinho was heralded as the second coming when he signed for a certain white-clad side. Is he? Not hardly. Very good player, not a great one.
If they want to stick to that valuation, it's because they clearly want to keep Hernanes, and that's fine.
And for the record, Hleb and Adebayor aren't crap. Far from it. They flourished in the Arsenal system, and would be even better in ours, not to mention thriving in the more open Liga style of football. They're also proven professionals in the toughest league in the world, which is indeed worth a premium.
Just not worth overpaying for.

well, in my opinion..his "hunger" to play for us is worth it, that being said only because it's not alot of the players left who show the hunger or passion for football itself much less barcelona..this guy seems eager to shine and shine with our colors on his back ..I don't know where the new coach's head is at because of somethings that's he's been stating. Alves is the only new siging i smiled about so far but we'll see when the Summer is Over.. Barcelona for life win, lose, or draw..
It's not like Barca are letting him slip away. 25 million euro for Hernanes is crazy. He only have experience from Brazil, isn't even that young and takes up an non-euro spot in the team. If we can't get him for 12 million we should look for other options, maybe Crosas or someone else from within.
