Confidence vote puts pressure on Adebayor talks

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Arsenal will block the transfer of Arsenal forward and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor (24) until they have found a player who can replace him.

Barcelona on the other hand wants to close a deal before the vote of no confidence on July 6th. If the current board loses the vote, it looks like no transfers will be possible after that date.

Barcelona would therefore be considering to launch a new bid after a first 29 million euro° offer was rejected. The paper claims that Adebayor could fly to London in the coming days to talk directly to Arsenal officials and pressure them to allow a transfer.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that the telephonic negotiations advance well and that a deal could be closed very soon. Barcelona, who need to sell first another player in order to be able to buy Adebayor, would pay 27 million euro° plus 3 million euro° variables, with Arsenal having asked in the beginning 40 million euro°.

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that an offer of 27 million euro° was rejected and that Barcelona will have to raise its bid to 30 million euro°.

Get Pavlyuchenko instead, he is cheaper and in the same level as adebayor.

because then there have to be new elections, so the current board hasn't the full charge of the club anymore and can't just do whatever they want. can a board in that situation can still do transfers? most people apparently think not.

Not only can a new board not do transfers, but it is almost certain that a new board would also want to change direction, leading to the difficult circumstance of having players that the new guys don't want.

It's no secret that the leading contender should Laporta face the ax, Sandro Rosell, would make it a priority to sign Kun Aguero. This is part of the "chicken in every pot" promises that politicians make.

The critical thing here is that even if Laporta wins, more than 40 percent voting no confidence means that he's going to be leaving sooner rather than later, with elections to follow soonest.

Giralt and his supporters, by making the move that they have, might have actually done the club more harm than good.

if Laporta wins, there cannot be another vote for one year or so. And Laporta is gone in 2010 anyway, so if he doesn't loose the vote, he'll probably finish the mandate. Unless we have a really bad season.

30mil for Adebayor is pure insanity! Laporta deserves to get axed if this goes through.

Exactly, Djoef. And it's pretty difficult to imagine the no confidence vote getting the necessary two-thirds majority of the socis.

The real danger is if a sufficently large percentage vote for it, forcing him out prematurely. This would ensure that this season is crap, since everything would be thrown into turmoil.

As for Laporta, he promised Beckham and brought us Ronaldinho. Nothing wrong with that, right? He also brought us Rijkaard, titles and a Champions League crown.

The Nou Camp also became a much nicer place to watch a match. No more boixos nois, no more violence. As with this year, they rebuilt, and things were stinky for a bit before it all came together for two glorious seasons.

How soon the socis forget.

Damn right, Kxevin! Far too fickle.

Paying 30 million for Adebayor wold be madness. He's worth like 20 million, tops.

Arshavin is the best winger at euro 2008, so why dont FCB just buy him, besides he himself wants only Barca shirt
