Price Chygrynskiy could drop to 10 million

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that the transfer of Shakhtar Donetsk defender and Ukrainian international Dmytro Chygrynskiy (22) could become more likely if Shakhtar gets eliminated in the Champions League qualifying stage tonight.

An elimination against Rumanian club Timisoara could make Shakhtar reconsider the planning of the squad and accept an offer for Chygrynskiy. Although Shakhtar president Akhmetov told last week that Barcelona has made an offer of 22 million euro, Barcelona sources are quoted as telling that the club's highest offer so far was 18 million euro°.

A bad result for Shaktar tonight could make the actual transfer fee drop to 15 or even 10 million euro°. Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that the new asking price could be 18 million euro. Both papers report that the fact that the centre-back won't be able to play for Barcelona in this season's Champions League isn't a problem for Barcelona since the defender is seen as a long-term signing.

Update: Shakhtar drew 0-0 with FCU Politehnica Timisoara in the second leg and have been eliminated from the Champion's League on away goals.

why do they would want to sell him for 10 mil less if they had chance allready. dosn't make sence.

trez said...

Because they would then eliminated of the Cl, so they have less income and the player will be unhappy because he cannot compete in Europe. So they couldn't hold on to crazy prices as 30 or 25 anymore.

But I guess this president has enough resources of his own so I wouldn't hope on it...

Uhm why would we sign a player who cant play in the CL? Seems like a real madrid type move to me. If we want him so badly and he is a long term signing why dont we agree to sign him for next season? Adding a player that cannot play in the CL would seem to mess up the understanding in our back-line as we would have to constantly switch our lineup for CL games. Also

Pique Caceres Henrique Fontas Muniesa Blanchart Bolanos Sergi Botia all are CB's between the ages of 17 and 22. Why on earth are we buying another one?

what are the chances they will actually lose, is the team they are facing any good?

it could be 5 mil, the player doesn't want to go. Thats the point. I don't know why we are still willing to sign someone that doesn't want to leave. LETS MOVE ON!

Last week it was 2-2. In Ukraine, so Timisoara goes trhough with a draw. Shakhtar is nonetheless seen as the (far) beter team, so don't know. But there's one more qualifying round after this one.

Bolanos is out by the way, b4l: contract rescinded.

Why not ,Carvalho?Cheap and reliable .Over that this guy is 31 ,so all the doesn't need to worry about there future.

Ramzi said...

Shakhtar Donetsk is strong financially. CL elimination will not effect their desire to keep their guy. Unless if he forced his way out.

Yet, if he had this intention, he would have forced his way out before becoming cup tied. Or at least refused to play that game in the first leg.

I feel this transfer target is just a smoke, covering another transfer process behind. We will see...

oh ok i missed that but still Pique Caceres Henrique Fontas Muniesa Blanchart Sergi Botia. 7 young CB's between the ages of 17 and 22. Do we really need another one?

I understand with puyol and marquez getting on in age we are looking for future players but Pique Muniesa are 2 definite starters in the next 3-5 years and Fontas has looked rather good so far and between Caceres henrique blanchart sergi and botia we cant find a 4th defender? After we just spend 16.5 million on caceres last season? I am very unhappy with this move.

Ramzi said...

barca4life, Botia and Caceres are also not available, going on loan this season.

Alright I understand your point, just teasing you!

"but still Pique Henrique Fontas Muniesa Blanchart Sergi . 5 young CB's between the ages of 17 and 22. Do we really need another one?" Right? :)

I am sure our staff knows much better the quality of our youth defenders than we do. Caceres can not and will not ever be a player like Chyghrhyinskhyij who is very similar to Pique.

We can not buy only players like Milito or Hleb around 28 years old and getting their last big contract of their career with us. We need someone younger than 25 that can stay for many seasons and not be shipped out for free. With Chyghryinskhyij and Pique, we have a potential partnership for the next 10 years. Where does that leave Muniesa? I think Muniesa looks pretty ideal on the left back if you ask me, very similar to Puyol, but on the left, and gives us more balance with offensive Dani Alves on the right.

Blanchart, Sergi? Who are these players? We produce about one great defender every decade. This decade it is probably Muniesa. Blanchart, Sergi, Fontas etc etc, we shouldn't overhype these players thinking they will all be the next Beckenbauer, Passarella or Baresi.

barca4life said...

Blanchart and Sergi are defenders who are with the barcelona yth teams that have just played with the spanish team at the u-17 championships where the spain team did not concede a single goal.

What I am saying is this. We just spent 16.5 million on caceres who was going to be "the partnership with pique for the next 10 years". We are now rushing off to buy another CB who is "the next great thing"

I'm not against buying players if we need them but I do have concerns over what we are doing. Nobody is saying Blanchart and Sergi will be the next beckenbauer etc but we already have pique and muniesa who will be great, all we really need for the future are players to back these 2 up. We dont need passarella to sit on the bench. We just need a solid defender who can come in and do a job and we cant find that out of all the defenders we currently have?

Are the scouts that think Chygrynskiy is the centre back of the future the same ones that thought caceres was worth 16.5 million?

Nah, sounds like BS to me.
Donetsk have better finances than Valencia atm =) and do nor need to sell. And I don't think Chygrynskiy is unhappy, just 2 weeks ago he didn't want to leave and played the game so he knew he could not play CL with us. I think it's dry on news on the transfer market and the game is tonight so somebody is just BS'ing.

@barca4life, believe me Pep is spot on about pursuing relentlessly behind Chygrynskiy. I have seen some crucial matches of shaktar and he is awesome. Tall and very solid at the back. The last CL game they were compelled to bring him becos they were loosing at half time. Without him they leak a lot of goals. Muniesa is a good back atm but future is promising. Chygrynskiy will own physical EPL teams and can be a great asset to us, esp considering how mediocre Henrique has been thus far.

barca4life said...

praths you can understand my scepticism though right? I mean we just got caceres who was "big and strong and a force in the air" and i saw caceres look rather good against i think brazil it was recently in a WCQ.

I am one who has defended this board over their transfer policy but even I have to question this signing of a player who cant play in the CL not 1 year after we paid around 25 million euros for 2 CB's in Caceres and Henrique. Why didnt we just go after Chygrynskiy with that cash last season?

B4L: Tons of Barcelona players play for the Spanish youth teams every year, but only a very small percentage of those who do, turn out to be good enough for Barcelona (or even good enough for Almeria).

I definitely think Caceres buy was the worst buy in La Liga, no doubt about it, but I always believed that he was not the right defender for us. You have to be able to bring the ball out of defence and be totally comfortable with both short and long passes, to be able to succeed with us. And nobody is better than that than Chyighrhiynskyij. He is also tall (1.90m) and great in the air. Caceres is none of that. He can never be like Chyghrhyinskhyij.

We must also realize this; Muniesa just turned 17! We all have been impressed by him in the friendly games, but when the going gets tough, we can more accurately judge whether he is able to compete with men, or whether it is a few years too early. And it is far from certain whether he will turn out to be a new Baresi or another Oleguer.

trez said...

Caceres wasn't really big and strong, he was more like a very speedy, though defender. This one seems to be very good with the ball and that's what Guardiola is looking for. Defenders who also can play nice football.

Rory said...

man, why are we worrying about where 17 year olds will play? in two years, we can always sell someone like chygrynskiy if those youth players become true prodigies. and probably make a profit on that sale, btw.

blocking youth is a concern IF those youth are on the cusp of being regulars. Muniesa is the only one even close to that cusp, and he can play LB as Abidal's getting older.

@barca4life
i definitely understand your point dude, but you got to consider that caceres and henrique were not pep's choices he was here last season and caceres and henrique were already scouted during rijkaards era and pep did not have any idea about them while signing them u can confirm this when pep said during caceres presentation last year that "i have never seen him play, but people say he is fast and good at tackling i think he is talented and will prove it" so based on these words u can say that caceres was never peps choice and nobody would have ever seen henrique play for sure so it was basically txiki's fault more than peps...

so considering that chygrynsyiy is purely peps choice i think the board have to give him to pep as he got them the treble and as guardiola saw in him a mixture of the physicality of an EPL defender and a class and elegance of a marquez a combination which is extremely rare in defenders and he would be perfect for our system because of his extraordinary passing and positioning which is exactly wat a barca defender needs and which is exactly wat caceres lacks which is the reason he failed...

barca4life said...

Sigh ok, i just hope we are selling chygrynskiy in 1 year for 10 million (like we are now trying to do with Caceres) after having paid 18 million for him.

Anonymous said...

B4L: Why do you hope we sell Chigrinski after one year? We also try to sell Hleb, but impossible. Should we never buy Arsenal midfielders again?

We should not pay more than 20m for him, and I would rather buy Cesc or Mascherano or De Rossi, but he could be a good option for us freeing up Marquez and Pique for the DM when necessary.

barca4life said...

That was a typo. I meant to say "I hope we are not selling.... "

Unknown said...

LOL B4L... At first I said to myself. OK, he's frustrated now with the "sigh", added with a bit of sarcasm. Or is it?? hmm...

Unknown said...

@barca4life I understand your skepticism becos of the last 2 CB transfer failures like caceras and henrique. But I completely agree with you on caceras case, he should be given more playing time and tested before jumping to a conclusion. With henrique's case, still not convinced though, may be loan him to a spanish liga team and check him ???. Well they couldn't hire Chygrynskiy earlier becos caceras was already hired back then and also Chygrynskiy has proven in UEFA cup about his credentials this term. Anyways CB positions are always a gamble letz hope Pep is right on this one. Hope shaktar are eliminated from CL today :) as it will help us in getting him.

caceras, massi and Inaista?

Henrique is a transfer failure already? Wow, what happened to not jumping to a conclusion?

Let's buy him for ten!:)

he will stay. they can sell him next season for the same price

1 question..
aren't Shakthar the UEFA Cup winners? if so, dont they have automatic qualification to CL ?

if not, who was the UEFA cup winner?

sashi.

James said...

Shakhtar was the UEFA Cup winner. Perhaps they only automatically qualify for 3rd round qualifications, not the group stages.

Barca4Life,
you won't have to worry about us selling Dmitro after 1 year. Henrique and Caceres were signed without Pep's influence so it's not like Pep wanted them. But with Dmitro, he is making that decision and he knows exactly what he wants. Besides, I can't see such a promising CB failing. He and Pique will form a better partnership than Ferdinand and Vidic. Just watch.

Enrique said...

Ahahaha! One guy from Timisoara, small but very good, Bucur humiliated Chygrynskiy in this match… This Chygrynskiy doesnt worth more than 5 mil of euros this is his right price! The East had just 2 good products for the West as central defenders: one was Vidic who is now at Man Utd and the 2nd is Goian from Steaua, but the owner Gigi Becali asked too much for him 15 mil of euros and now this player is kinda old… i hope our Barcelona will not buy him!

Poli Timisoara just eliminated Shakhtar from CL. 0-0 it ended, I watched the game because I have bet. The Romanians were better, imagine Donetsk couldn't score a goal...
