Cesc gives green light to talk with Arsenal

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has yesterday made new contacts trying to sign Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (22).

Barcelona would first have sounded out the entourage of Cesc to know if the player, who has a contract with Arsenal until 2014 and is represented by Darren Dein who's also the agent of Barcelona player Thierry Henry, is willing to join Barcelona this summer.

After Barcelona got the assurance that Cesc is open to start negotiations under the condition that Barcelona first finds an agreement with Arsenal, Barcelona reportedly called an Arsenal representative to ask if the English club is willing to sell and if so, what the asking price would be.

Although Arsenal doesn't seem to have any intention to sell Cesc, it would already be clear that the club will not accept to include players like Gudjohnsen or Henrique in the deal and could ask a tranfer fee of 40 to 50 million euro°.

This first round of contacts is expected to possibly lead to a concrete bid, which should come soon because Arsenal plays a Champions League qualifying game on 18 August. If Cesc takes part in the match against Celtic Glasgow, he cannot play for Barcelona in the Champions League later this season, which would make a transfer highly unlikely.

They should have included Hleb in this deal...

MiDO H. said...

how on earth could they include Hleb when arsenal got rid of him in th first place and for like almost 12 mil..
henrique could be included in the deal becuz arsenal needs the defence
so we would pay eventually 37 M + loan henrique IMO. :)

if the deal fails , i will shoot myself !!!!

Barca neeeds a creative midfielder coz xavi cant play all the games !! and CESC is the onnlly player who fits the profile at the moment.

We lost two creative AMF deco and ronaldhinio, we need to replace them. Kieta , busquets , yaya are not creative, they r solid tough players, but not creative as xavi or iniesta..which is where cesc comes in !

fcbee said...

Don't you think they wouldn't want Hleb back? Especially since they immediately could have strengthened thier midfield, damaged by Cesc's exit. We paid 15 plus some incentives (2 or 3), so he could be valued at 8-10 millions now. But it's not option anymore anyway.

I think for this transfer they will have to make debts. But on the other hand: if we get him, you could be set for some years.

MiDO H. said...

yea we should get this thing cleared out by the end of this week
i sure hope he comes :)

please yes, please!!! i think barca have the money for this deal, and they might even make it without debts. what an amazing transfer season this would be, with ibra, cesc and maxwell replacing hleb, etoo and sylvinho. amazing...real should be shitting bricks if this goes through

First of all we need to ask ourselves whether we need Cesc at the first place;the answer for that will be a NO.Because we got two players in Xavi and Andres' who are similar to him and best in the world in their positions and probably the best the world ever seen, then where should we play Cesc?there is only one way we can accommodate Cesc that if Andres' or even Cesc being shifted to the left wing.So all in all he should not be our top priority for this season.

I just have this horrible, dreadful feeling that what we're seeing here is an ending.

Buying back our own youth product for more than 30m euro...unbelievable.

I really dont see arsenal selling CESC to any team 5 days before the start of the season, im surprised how laporta and txixi believe in this deal. I think that they didnt do their job or maybe they didnt anticipate how the market would go,thinking that they will stay calm till they find two or three good opportunities instead of settling just after the champions league final the priorities and work earlier on the deals of the players that intrest them. Iam sure that it was possible to reach an agreement for Cesc in june..now its just too late .

yuti said...

Very unlikely but who would one month ago have put his money on Zlatan joining us? And in a week it was all done.

MiDO H. said...

i agree with yuti
and the same thing goes for maxwell
evry1 expected we signed filipe luis and after one day it was maxwell being presented at the mini estadi not filipe

I agree with HOSNI.. Cesc is a captian. he is probably the best player of arsenal. And there r 5 days to start the season. So if they'll sell him they dont even have time to replace him.
Yea, Zlatan and Maxwell just happend like that, in one day. But now the situation is different. Arsenal lost Toure, Adebayor and if they would lose Cesc they r really fu*ked.. and 1 month ago the could lose him cause then there was a time to buy some other good player but now. No chance, sorry

barca4life said...

I think how well ramsey merida and wilshire have done in pre-season can be a plus for us. Wenger could decide to go it with these youngsters. Arsenal have many good young CM including Denislon Nasri barazite and the above 3. Might as well get some money while its flowing right?

trez said...

They can sell Cesc for 40 and get Sneijder for 20, he would fit in well.

jordy said...

we don't need him. we've got thiago, dos santos on their way.
If you get cesc how the hell are those promosing players going to get in the line up? never. besides the youngster have a similar profile.
I'd rather get a cheap defensive midfielder than fabregas. or a defender who can also play midfield like kompany. basic virtue: they need to be very technical. the problem with kompany is that he's not great despite his length and i prefer left footed players because we haven't got a lot of them
I aslo heared that milito is finally painless.

barca4life said...

@ Backseatstranger nasri is out for a few weeks but he'll be back so its not as if he is gone forever, he cant play in CM that was my main point.

@Jordy - Xavi has played over 100 games in the past 2 seasons and in 2 offseason tournaments for spain during that period of time. When xavi is off the field as we saw in pre season barca looked ordinary. Against chivas dani alves was running the show which tells us something. Look i'm all for youth but to go into the biggest season we have had in a long time with 6 competitions and the ACN shoved into a shorter space of time (because of the world cup rest period mandated by fifa) with thiago and dos santos (who have played a combinded 1 la liga game between them) is crazy.

@HUMAID who says 'Kieta , busquets , yaya are not creative, they r solid tough players, but not creative as xavi or iniesta'

Dud, what are you talking about? Have you even been seeing busquets play recently? Confed. Cup and the pre-season? He HAS the crativity of Xavi. He has got the potential to be the play-maker of Barca. It's just that he's not yet ready.
And toure plays a CM for his country man. It's not like he is some dumb shit only capable of doing the dirty work. It's Barca who made him the CDM, though he is the best at it, it's not that he's born for that. He belongs to an elite club which has the likes of Essien you see.

But I do accept that we need a CM who is ready to step into Xavi's shoes if God forbid he gets injured. But with all this speculation about signing Fab I'm more worried about dear Busquee more than any body else. He, as you say, will have to shun his creativity and be settled for the DM position for eternity if Fab deal gets done. PLEASE NEVER say he hasn't got creativity. He's got THE vision man.
I was hoping that may be Barca would sign some DM, say the likes of Keita, so that Busquee would actually gets his skills toned properly. But with all the happenings lately I don't see it happening :(

jordy said...

i think it's crazy to have such a short term vision. and it's not we are going to face 6competitions only with the youngsters
we've got
iniesta, xavi, keita, yaya, busquets and guddy is there to. that's 6 players for 3 spots and in emergencies , 3 very promising youngsters.last year we took the same risk with sergi busquets and it turned out great. he played final CL and the year before he was playing fourth division. last year we got three titles and how many games did caceres play?the only rotation was with pique and keita. even hleb, guddy, sylvinho, bojan barely played. we do take the risk up front with a boy who has only played 5 liga machtes, pedro. and everyone agrees. I do to. but isn't that a bigger risk? there aren't 6 attack players who have experience, no we have three, and three youngsters(pedro, bojan jeffren)..

thebackseatstrangler said...

@barcathuglife
i'm pretty sure it's more like 3 months.

fabregas would both be a short-term & long-term investment. we get someone to give xavi a rest w/out worrying about a dip in quality or experience & we get someone to replace him for the long run(although i can't see that happening anytime soon).

i dig dos santos but i doubt he'd ever play anything but second fiddle to cesc when, not if, he gets here.

Unknown said...

We need Cesc or some one of his abilities to cover for Xavi/Iniesta now and replace Xavi for the long-term. Santos and Thiago can always partner Cesc or any Xavi's replacement when they get their full 1st team call-up.

I have doubt that Laporta and the board is really serious in getting him this summer. More like lip-service to prevent from being accused of not doing something in the event that our midfielders got injured or unavailable one way or the other, leading to failures. If they're serious about Cesc, this bid would have been done weeks ago when we go for Masche..

Unknown said...

I take back what I've said about Laporta and the board. They would have to see whether they can get Masche first before they can make a bid for Cesc. That was just stupid of me born out of frustation, I guess, seeing how this deal has a very real chance of not materialising.

barca4life said...

@Jordy Gudjohnsen is gone. Pep doesnt want him and we are actively trying to sell him. Look Xavi Iniesta Busquets Keita Toure and youngsters are what we have. What happens if xavi goes down with an injury.

Are we really discussing starting a champions league quarter final with Dos Santos and thiago? Who is gonna pull the strings? We have seen how we have looked in pre-season. When xavi is not on the field we look ordinary. Iniesta was injury prone last season and continues to have many little injuries at the start of this season.

To depend for creativity on Busquets Toure and Keita is crazy. If cesc comes we can also move iniesta to the LW as we did against chelsea at stamford bridge so that leaves us with

Messi Ibra Henry Bojan Iniesta and then the youngsters.

No we didnt have much rotation with players last season but this season will be even worse. We have to fly to abu dhabi mid season and then yaya and keita will be gone for 6 weeks. Xavi has played tirelessly without rest for the past 2 years if we do not get him backup we will end this season in tears. Mark my words. Real Madrid have no players heading to the ACN and they have no trip to Abu Dhabi in mid season.

We are playing with fire. The worst i have ever seen xavi look is in the semi final of the Confed Cup when he looked exhausted. We are going to burn him our if we dont get somebody who can give him a rest. Thiago and Dos Santos are not those people

Fenderek said...

How is it possible that Barcelona fans talk about back up for Xavi and Iniesta they talk about Thiago (who's not even in the first team), Jonathan, even Fabregas (who's supposed to be some kind of saviour, even though he left this club some time ago)- and almost nobody mentions Busquets, who more than proved his worth last season- and can only get better... I wouldn't spend more than 30 milion for Cesc. Not sure if i'd actually spend 30...

Busquets doesnt have the creativity of xavi and iniesta. Pep was using him as a CB with the B team at one stage for crying out loud. The dude is a DM. Have you ever seen him make a defence splitting pass? We need somebody who can create off the bench. It doesnt have to be cesc but we do need a more creative CM.

messidona10 said...

i think this move is highly unlikely to be done
but who knows they could surprise us
remember when txiki said that the next transfer will be like the maxwell transfer

Anurag said...

b4l, you must remember busquets' pass to jeffren against galaxy.

that aside, i am all for cesc, as he provides us with all sorts of permutations and combinations in midfield. his arrival would make our starting XI even harder to guess.

thebackseatstrangler said...

the guy breaks the biggest bone in his body & his coach thinks he'll be back in half the time that was originally estimated by the medical staff? i hope for both their sake's he's right & it's not that serious.

so back to barca...i've seen busquets make atleast a couple of trenchant passes but i was never a fan of moving him or toure up. it's nice to know that they could be able to fill that spot if need be but, really? ?

zos said...

guys we need him if not this year then next for sure... you forget that xavi and keita turn 30 next year guddy and most likely hleb are goners so that leaves us only 4 players in the midfield xavi keita iniesta and yaya.... i know some same dos santos and thiago but jonathan will become, if ever, "xavi" after 22 and thiago is not even in preseason... so by the time that dos santos and thiago are starters xavi would be 33-34... moreover there are injuries, hopefully for madrid faggots, and rotation dont forget that the come of Fab doesnt exclude young players competing for the cup... The only negative thing is the price... 40-50 million for an ex cantera is not the best example for our youth...

alcantara said...

i think we should just sign arteta, basically the same type of player as xavi and fabregas who can play at the level required at bareclona also.
i think we could get him for 10-15 million and i think he could accept a role similiar to that of keita last year so prob e won't have all the drama about who should play.
i love fabregas but we shouldn't get him before xavi retires and lets hope thats not in the near future

Unknown said...

We have to forget the fact that Cesc being a former cantera, can be had for cheap. He left us at 16 y.o for career than may or may not work for him. "Luckily" for him it does. It may easily go the other way ala Helb. He is now an accomplished player that if we ever want him, we must pay whatever Arsenal, who own him, ask.

The advantage we have is that, being a Barca product, he's sure to feel more akin to this club than to others, no matter what he says. It's not like we forced him out that he holds a grudge against us. Anyway he's only 22, not even reaching his full potential, giving us the chance to reap the fruits of Wenger's efforts for years to come.

bosnian_likes_barca said...

There is no doubt, we have to buy another world class player, and Cesc is the best solution because ha can cover many position like CM, DM and LW. There will be posibillity for rotation with Yaya, Xavi, Iniesta, Henry, Ibra and Messi. Some of them will be tired, injured, baned and as we know Yaya and Keitha will go to Africa cup. When Ibra is not on the field, Henry can play that position, Iniesta left wing and Cesc in the middle. Sometimes when Yaya play cenral defender, Cesc can play DM when Pep wants to have offensive and with Iniesta, Cesc and Yaya we have so many good options, and that's a reason for paying 50 millions, or even if we have to sell Keitha it would be smart desicion, because he's not so young and not so good for rotations.
If we can't buy Cesc for 50 million we should try to buy Mesut Ozzil from Bremen, or Gourcuff from Bodeaux, or Moutinho, maybe we can buy one of them for 30 millions, and for 20 millions some good young defender like Kompany.
And in extreamly case, maybe it's good to try to get Ribbery or Kun Aguerro for 60 millions+Bojan on loan.

Iason said...

I always say this and I will say it again. It is better to get an older player that stunt the developement of our youth players. It would be better if wee got someone like Pirlo or Riquelme or even Beckham.

Harvey said...

Iason what are you talking about?! Cesc would be a long-term investment and I'm sure he will follow in Xavi's footsteps. The older players you mention can no longer keep up to the European level of football, whereas Cesc is yet to peak. Just look at Xavi at 22 and Xavi now.

Unknown said...

Iason, in light of the complexities surrounding the transfer of Masche and now possibly Cesc, I too thought a better option would be to go for some one who has peaked but still has the juice. This stop-gap move will give Busquets and Santos time to develop further until Cesc completes his contract or able to leave for a reasonable price.

My choice is Aimar of Benfica. At 29, he still has 1-2 years, maybe even 3-4, of good footballing left in him. The problem with this is whether he wants to join us or not. He most certainly would not want to be benched a good deal of the season. As for his club, a good offer, way above the 7mil they paid for him from Valencia, can be affordable to us this summer.

Another problem why this may not happen is the board unwillingness to spend money on a short-tem player when they can go for some one who they think is more for the future.

@Those who say Busquets hasn't got the vision & should be left alone for doing the dirty work, just have a look at this article :

http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2009/08/11/1434749/spanish-inquisition-do-barca-need-any-more-signings

"Last season, a youngster by the name of Sergio Busquets broke into the first team and performed so well that he earned a call up to the Spanish national squad.
This pre-season, Busquets looks as if he’s taken a page from Xavi Hernandez’s book, providing visionary passes through to fellow youth products Jeffren Suarez and Pedro ‘Pedrito’ Rodriguez."

The dude's seriously got a very bright future ahead of him guys :)
