Barcelona ready to bid for Cesc

Catalan radio station Ona FM claims that Barcelona is still interested in Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (22).

Cesc would be one of the main transfer targets of Barcelona president Joan Laporta and a part of his board, and the club
would therefore be willing to offer Arsenal a transfer fee of 30 million euro°.

Although the Catalan player would like to return to Barcelona, Arsenal reportedly isn't be willing to let Cesc go. His departure would have a serious impact on the sporting objectives of the team and after the sale of Adebayor, the English Premier League club has no financial need to sell. Only a record offer could make Arsenal accept a bid.

Lets just say he comes, does that mean that yaya has to sit on the bench mostly???

I'd love to see Cesc in Barca, that way we could rotate him with Xavi and Iniesta without losing the creativity in the midfield, but as the post says, Arsenal have sold players and are in no need of money, 30 mil won't convince them to sell their star player and captain.

fcbee said...

Cesc would be good because we could rotate ànd keep the same style of playing. Now we have Iniesta and Xavi and that's it. We can put Keita, Gudjohnsen, Busquets (and some will say Touré) next to Xavi but then the you ahve a different kind of football.

Only problem is: you can't see it happen because Arsenal doesn't want to sell and Cesc has too much respect for Wenger to force his way out.

Shadyy said...

Yaya doesn't sit anywhere. This allows us to rotate Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc throught the season and make up for any inquires that one of the three might have without a drop off in the level of play.

This would be a great signing but I don't see this getting done for anything less than 45 mil. And that figure may actually be on the low end.

Sandvik said...

I don't think he will leave this season, but if we bougth him I beleive we would have used Iniesta a lot as a Henry replacement

Kxevin said...

We could get him, for a number that would make the Ibrahimovic outrage seem like mild upset. Because we'd be paying about 55m (we could get him for that) for a bench player.

Ain't. Gonna. Happen.

yuti said...

The reason behind this is that the board wants to prevent that Rosell can present Cesc next season. That's why they might overspend...

Anonymous said...

While Cesc is the transfer I want most, I don't think it will happen. There's no way Arsenal will let Cesc leave and certainly not for cheap.

Kman said...

We surely need him in future, but we should be paying more than 1o mill for our youth player. let him run down his contract at arsenal down to 1 yr and then sigh him for cheap.

Anonymous said...

hell no..we cnt pay tht much 4 cesc..he is gd bt nt as xavi or iniesta! mayb if he buys hmself 4rm tht cntract at arsnal n he tkes a massive paycut 2 b in grp D...DNT GET HIM PLZ!!

you guys really believe he will come to barca??

Madrid will get him,,or ac milan,,,look and see it will happen

trez said...

Madrid really don't need a player like him anymore now they have Xabi.

Anonymous said...

Don't be stupid blaugrana1. He'd never go to Barca or Milan. His destiny is to return to Barca and everyone and their mother knows it.

Maybe not this season, but certainly next, I think.

Manolo said...

This is would be a pretty good signing.

Then we don't need a leftwinger, Iniesta can move up and have a WORLDCLASS rotation with Xavi,Iniesa,Fabregas. Damn ;P

Can't Fabregas use one article that says that he can lower the price on his head? like if a player have been in a squad for a special about of years.

Pep do u know what I mean?

Laporta is on fire!

El Fuego said...

ElBananero have you ever heard for rotation ???

Ramen said...

Elbananero, Yaya and Cesc play completely different positions. Of course he won't.

Anonymous said...

How many times has Cesc said that he will not leave Arsenal? I can't understand why Laporta and the board can't get this. Arsenal will never sell for 30m. Barcelona are crazy if they believe they have a chance to seal this deal for that sum. Just don't waste time on this issue.

Yaya Toure will bencg Cesc

Carrer de Corsega said...

So you guys are suggesting we should break the bank for a cantera player so that he can fulfill a rotation role?

Anonymous said...

corsega, henry would be more rotation than cesc. who do you suggest we buy to reduce our xavi-iniesta dependence?

Anonymous said...

I would NOT pay more than 25-30 M max for him !!

Iason said...

It would be better to get someone older that wont ruin Thiago's and J. Dos Santos' chances of making the first team one day. Someone who can rotate in the midfield and is proven in a big team. Beckham, Juninho, Pirlo, De La Pena and Riquelme are all great options in my opinion and are much cheaper than Cesc.

Anonymous said...

Beckham isn't proven anymore. Juninho has retired from football. The other players you mention can't play without being the centre of play and needs regular games and match rhythm to perform.

Im telling you now, I watch the premier league and i live in England, these people here will call somone who can do a few tricks and dribbles a world super star. In their eyes Ashley Cole is the best in his position in the world, rooney is world class etc, and fabregas is Xavi or iniesta. Don't buy their bull Sh*t, they exaggerate and overate anything with the slightest of skills in whatever area their in whether its sports or anything else. fabregas is no better than Thiago or J. Dos Santos'. yes he is excellent for arsenal but then again throw in jeffren or pedro and they will be like messi for them (boasting over the top). Cesc is nothing special and certainly not worth more than 20 million. Watch his matches for spain then watch him play for arsenal then you know what I mean, if you watch Iniesta or Xavi at both international and club level its the same worldclass standard.

No cesc please. Thank you

Anonymous said...

Well said @sanur...its a NO 2 cesc..JDS & Thiago wll b even much bttr thn hm cz thy r learning 4rm th best..xavi, iniesta! let cesc njoy hs trophyless stay at arsenal..we wll tke hm bck as a free transffr as bck up 4 jds & thiago!

Carrer de Corsega said...

To Anony,

I don't pretend to be an expert or a professional scout. My point is that if you spend 30 million, which I think is an underestimate for the current price tag of Fabregas, he better play at least 90 percent of the games in the season. Now, do you think he will play 90% of the games with Xavi & Iniesta ahead of him? Now, you might say Iniesta will move to LW. So how many games you think Henry will sit down to make room for Fabregas in the middle?

Anonymous said...

A partly agree with you sanur. Fabregas is no way as good as his english media hype, his passing accuracy isnt that great etc...
But this is not to say hes not worth that price, he has great vision which cannot be taught, and is still young and who knows, might develop into a world class player. I dont see why everyone is willing to bet on JDS and thiago, atm they are just potential and might never make it to fabregas level.

Carrer de Corsega said...

And if Iniesta moves to left regularly, our number of goals from the left flank will dramatically decrease.

Anonymous said...

Some of you disgust me. Thiago hasn't impressed me and while I think JDS has a future, it's not as good as Cesc's. You seem to forget that Cesc isn't much older and is himself still learning, just as they are. He'll get even better. Yes to Cesc. Let the other two try to fight for a space with him and we'll see.

barca4life said...

Look people here know me. They know I have been the biggest advocate of our youth talent. Bojan Jeffren Pedro Gai Muniesa Thiago have all been pushed for heavily by myself so much so that I have gotten into several very public disagreements with people on this blog.

But to depend in the biggest season in a very long time in our clubs history on an 19 year old who has never played a la liga game for us and an 18 year old who has played 1 la liga game to replace xavi is sheer lunacy.

Xavi Iniesta Busquets Yaya Keita

If xavi goes down we lose a huge amount of creativity. I for one would not want to put the kind of stress of replacing xavi against chelsea on thiago or dos santos and expecting Yaya Busquets or Keita to be our creative force is crazy

We saw how average we looked in the first half against the LA galaxy when Xavi was on the bench. Xavi has played over 100 games in the last two years and has many more this season. He looked the worst I have ever seen him against the US in the confed cup. We will burn him out if we dont get some proper backup.

Cesc can get his games. During the 38 game league season if xavi rests for 6 games iniesta rests for 6 games, henry rests for 6 games (where iniesta moves to LW) and Keita and Yaya are gone for 6 games for the ACN Cesc Can easily start 20-25 games and this is not even considering an injury to xavi or iniesta.

Unknown said...

The season is only a few weeks away and its the biggest in our history being the holders of all the major honours and with an additional 3 at stake, then there is the world cup. So why are we wasting time talking, suggesting, dreaming and wanting unrealistic targets, does anyone really think we can get Cesc for this season whenArsenal have already sold two first teamers anf the CL playoff match a fortnight away. We need reinforcements that is correct, we need then fast, to be effective and at good prices because we dont have another 30 million to spend on one player considering we need an extra 2-3 players I agree with barca4life about our youth and not to depend too much on them and that is true. So lets start suggesting and exchaning names of players that I for example don't know about and who is a realistic target PLEASE PLEASE.

Anonymous said...

You just suggested JDS&Thiago are not good enough to start bc they havent had Liga games but jump to the conclusion that Cesc is good enough? He hasnt played in Liga either.

Anonymous said...

Message above is for B4L, the famous boy around here!

barca4life said...

Uhm Cesc has been playing in the BPL for about 5 years now. Have either dos santos or Thiago ever played in any first division league? I think he is good enough.

Unknown said...

Cesc will crack as soon as he comes out to the Camp Nou (feeling guilty of betrayal) he will never succeed.

barca4life said...

Cesc will crack? Did Pique crack? Or did you cheer when he scored in the berna-boo

Anonymous said...

Sanur, you sound like you have a personal vendetta. It makes it hard to take you seriously.

Unknown said...

Dennis Bergkamp became a superstar at Arsenal after failing at Inter, Viera was a pillar in midfield at Arsenal failed at Inter. Henry failed at Juventus became a star at Arsenal Oh my even Emmanuel Petit and Overmars looked world beaters at Arsenal put were just another drop in the ocean at Barca. The fact is not that Arsene gets rid of players at the right time and makes loads of profit, the truth is most are failiures or will be failiures at other clubs anyway and Arsenal gave them stardom because they are not exactly seen as the biggest club in England never mind Europe, no European Cup wins in history either. Fabregas in quality for them but let him come to Barca and we will see what his really worth.

Carrer de Corsega said...

These are all speculations. We won't know if his Premier League experience is beneficial or not for Barcelona. He might come over and be tenth of the player he was at Arsenal or be ten times the player he was. Those sorts of things, we would never know about let alone suggesting he will crack! Pero Cesc es un puto crack

barca4life said...

I think you meant to write Cesc is a crack as opposed to cesc will crack. LOL. We dont know if Arsenal will sell, I admit its difficult, but you never know this is a crazy time in football and if cesc wants to come back and we go calling we could end up with him. Arsenal have a lot of good young CM's coming through. Ramsey, Wilshere, Merida, Song, Denilson and Nasri all can play CM. Arsene may decide now is the time to cash in while people are paying big money

Unknown said...

I have nothing against Cesc believe me I don't. I just don't buy the Wnglish media hype that surrounds him just like the England team before big tournements and how they will win it. I don't want MY CLUB to waste more money by buying hyped up players like we did Hleb and both Emmanual Petit and Overmars etc. I am a Cules and I simply will not and do not accept anyone that will betray them FULLSTOP, but sincerely my opinion of Cesc is simply because I think he is not anywhere as good as people are making him out to be.

barca4life said...

We dont know if his BPL experience is beneficial to barca? What's that supposed to mean? Wasnt ronaldo's BPL experience good for real? Or will he flop too? Class is Class. We know cesc, we grew him. He knows barca as laporta says he has barca dna. he will do well here.

Carrer de Corsega said...

Cesc is a crack that might or might not crack!

Carrer de Corsega said...

I am not dismissing his BPL experience by any means. Again, my point is that we won't know if he will gel in or not. Of course he has Barcelona DNA and that's why he will probably be more successful, on the paper at least, than some other BPL players that came over to Spain, for example, Petit or Owen.

Again, I don't pretend to know...

barca4life said...

Yeah i get ur point. Nobody can say for sure if he will be a success or not. Actually i think wenger ruined him. He was scoring 30 goals season at one stage at yth level. He should really have been scoring more than he is now but wenger changed his game. I hope he will regain what he lost when he comes back to barca. He was putting up some crazy assist numbers the season before this one. Xavi type numbers. Something like >20 assists

Unknown said...

It does not matter whether someone has EPL experience, La Liga experience, Serie A experience or not, the real fact is BARCELONA are a Unique club and you either Succeed here or fail here snd it all depend on if you can handle this club for its status, history, stadium expectations. Look at the Madrids, Milans and Juves and the list of average players they have signed and who have remained part of their teams for years, unfortunately these average players will come though one door and out the other at Barca, they won't be hanging around for too long.

Carrer de Corsega said...

I agree. Everyone makes Wenger to be this unbelievable talent developer, but I hate how he has relatively lost his nose for goals.

Unknown said...

Barca has a philosophy and Cesc did not know that phiosophy thats why the man done a runner to the nearest club paying large amount of doller bills.

Carrer de Corsega said...

Right Sanur, but what makes you be so certain about Cesc's inability to handle the "status, history, stadium expectations" of the club that he started his career at? That's the dogmatic view you have here! Or at least it sounds like it.

barca4life said...

barca is a unique club and cesc grew up here. He knows what it is all about. I cant think of a player that would be better ready to fit straight into our team.

If you want to hate somebody try hating Merida who signed a contract and then left. I wouldnt want him anywhere near the camp nou ever again. Let him go wherever the hell he wants. He is no longer welcome here.

bosnian_likes_barca said...

We need Cesc or Aguero this summer. 50 millions + Gudjonsen or Keitha would be enough for transfer. I'think Laporta can pay that money, maybe it's looks so expensive, but it would be great job. They are great young players, they sad thay would like to come, there is no problem to incorporate to team, Fabregas could be usefull in the middle, we will have rotation of exelent players like Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Yaya, Inesta could cover left wing in rotation with Henry. Barca have to play many games in this season, some players will be injured and there will be a place for all of them. If transfer of Fabregas is mission unposible this summer, we have to buy him next year, and other option have to be a Kun Aguerro, for rotating with Ibra, Henry and Messi. I think, for him is enough 50 millions + Gudjonsen.

Carrer de Corsega said...

He was a 16 year old that was visited by Arsenal scouts 44 times as he said it! Hell, if Hull City had scouted me 20 times, I would have been tempted, too!

Carrer de Corsega said...

Again, for me personally the issue is whether a player who is not going to be top 3 talent in our team upon arrival, and subsequently not starting regularly independent of others' schedule of rest or injuries, is worth that much money. No doubt he is a quality player though.

Unknown said...

I Know for a fact he will NOT succeed, especially now he has seen what Iniesta and Xavi have done by slowly coming through the ranks, they are now world stars and with out a doubt two of the best midfielders this game has seen, he will have the task to match that and then eventually fill that gap, already a hell of a responsibility and act to follow at the greatest club in thw world.

Carrer de Corsega said...

Well, if you are so certain about something that hasn't happened yet, I think you will have a great career as a fanatic preacher ahead of you!!

Your post is logic free and deserves no further response!

Unknown said...

Someone who is not a Barca blood has a better chance to be successfull, someone without the thought of betrayal, coming in with less pressure and again slowly learning off them (Iniesta, Xavi). Cesc will not control and dominate the Barca midfield. Also if Mr Rossell thinks his gonna have a pre agreement with Cesc in the election campaign and cme in and destroy what laporta has achieved then he is wrong because I for one will not vote for him.

Unknown said...

Carrer de Corsega...

My post has logic don't worry about that. Cesc did not believe in himself, did not feel he was good enough therefore moved to Arsenal, otherwise if he had thought for once I will make it then he would still be here trying and maybe extablished back up or even a regular. You might have jumped at the chance of Hull scouting you 20 times, but if you truely feel you have what it takes then you will stay on to prove yourself right.

Carrer de Corsega said...

That doesn't sound like betrayal though! That sounds like someone who realized he is not good enough and tried to develop in the best environment offered to him. If that's what you say, how can you fault him for trying to be a better footballer? The academy is also for helping people earn a living through football not just feeding the first team.

So which one is it? Was he someone who thought he is not good enough and left or someone who knew he was good enough yet left? The latter is betrayal and not the former.

Unknown said...

neither of them, I just feel it is not appropriate for us to sign back a cantera product for 30 plus million when he left because he did not feel he can play in the first team and that he will not be good enough thats all I am saying.

Just like people do not like tax payers money being wasted I do not like to see our Club money wasted on hype. On the other hand if he was about 10 illion, or free then why not take him back and give it a try, but to pay 30-40 for someone who left at his own accord is unacceptable especially knowing he left because he felt he has a better chance at Arsenal and not at barca.

Carrer de Corsega said...

Just because back in time he didn't feel like he was good enough, as you suggest, doesn't mean that he is not good enough now. Believe me, I have major problems with paying anything let alone that much for a homegrown player, but unfortunately that seems to be the order of business now.

My only worry is this: Laporta is going to be endorsing somebody from the current board for next year's election. He might be trying to buy Fabregasto take the ace-in-the-hole of Rosell away from him. Eventually Fabregas will end up at Barcelona, but I hope it is for technical reasons rather than political ones.

Again, the above paragraph is my speculations out of thin air. I don't know shit, but that possibility bothers me a bit.

Anonymous said...

I cannot understand why ppl keep talking about Cesc. Take Messi, Xavi, Iniesta- they never want to leave Barca. No matter how much money is thrown at them- they want to be here, nowhere else. Why the hell would we want the guy, who recently said that chosing between Barca and Real would be difficult? Seriously- no matter how good he is. Even though he comes from our youth system- he is NOT Barca material... not mentally anyway... I honestly don't want him here.

Anonymous said...

whatever you say, cesc will end up at barca, that's for sure

Unknown said...

Cesc might end up at Barca for whatever reason, but one thing is for sure and that is he will produce not even 50% of what has been produced by Iniesta/Xavi.

Rosell might try to bring his bunch of clowns to Barca but he ain't gonna succeed, a man who disagreed with laporta and look what laporta has achieved just look. I would say he is the greatest president of this club.

Anonymous said...

Sanur, while you can certainly say that paying that much for our own youth product isn't wise, I think it goes too far to say that you're "sure" he won't succeed. There's no such thing as "sure." When Wenger bought Henry from Juve and played him in the middle, everyone was sure he would fail. He went on to become one of the greatest players of the decade.

HellNo said...

Alright I have an idea, don't shoot me down yet. What if we were to offer Arsenal 10 million for cesc BUT we first take him on loan. If He ends up being a flop, we return him to Arsenal and they keep the 10 million. If he turns up successful we add 35 million(or what ever amount satisfies Arsenal) to the original offer and we keep him. That would silence conflict associated with the risk of buying cesc and would benefit Arsenal if he succeeds or if he fails.

Unknown said...

I'm going out on a limb here.

What if we go for Pablo Aimar of Benfica? If it's a rotation player we're looking for, he's the best one around for me. He's almost 30 y.o. this november so I'm sure he'll understand what he's in for when he does agree to join us. Benfica bought him for 7mil last year with a contract running till2011, so if the Board offer the club 10-15mil I'm sure they'll consider it carefully. Anyway, he may not necessarily be benched if Pep choose to play Iniesta as LW while he partners Xavi in midfield with Yaya as DM.

The problem with this transfer is of Aimar himself, whether he wants to be benched a percentage (maybe up to 50-75%) of the season as he's is one of those players that is sure to gain a 1st team place with any team. I'm sure he's the pillar for Benfica midfield as we speak right now and the club may not want to release him so early in his contract.

As for Cesc, we will go for him but I don't think it's this time around. Next year he'll have 1 year left on his current contract (Arsenal have the option to extend for another 3) and should Arsenal fail to qualify for the 2010-2011 CL (which could result in Wenger's dismissal), and combined with Rossel's promise I'm pretty sure Cesc will leave.

Either way, IF we can get someone like Aimar, we can wait another 2-3 season before we need/have to get him (unless someone better surfaces), and by that time even his extended contract would have nearly expired. Cesc, at 25-26 y.o would also have reached his peak by then.

thebackseatstrangler said...

i don't have any doubts as to whether cesc can fit into the team, whether he'd be willing to sit on the bench(as he does for the national team), whether he'd get enough time on the pitch, or his ability. here's a video of his assists in arsenal so far...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ecK7IF5kmM

i do have doubts about his price tag. if mascherano is priced @ 50 million euros by rafa benitez why would arseme wenger let the linchpin of his team go for a penny less than that?

i think we're wasting these last precious moments in the transfer window when we could be going after someone like hernanes...i don't know :^/

TO THOSE WHO COMPARE THE DEPARTURE OF FABREGAS TO THAT OF PIQUE :

Pique himself tried and convinced his manager ( Ferguson ) to allow him to get back to Barca. And that was when Barca was in one of the most troublesome phases in the recent times. Finished third in Liga, losing out on the most influential figure of recent times in Ronaldinho, a vote of no confidence & appointment of an inexperienced manager... One can go on. He came in such a disastrous situation and proved his worth. It was almost like a free transfer you see. Imagine us sending him out on loan for like 2-3 years, his wages alone would amount to like his transfer fee :)
And look at the Fabregas case. He SHOWED his interest to the club when Barca have won every thing & seem to be like the most dangerous club in the world. Won fresh accolades for it's beautiful, attacking game.

There's no comparison at all. Pique's getting out seems more like Crosas transfer who if proves his quality would get back to us next year. To get Fabregas now is like getting a new Super Star like Ibrahimovic that too him being a Cantera product.
BUT if Fabregas tries from his side to facilitate his transfer to Barca and if the transfer fee is some where around 20-25 million, yeah he can be welcomed with open hands. IF NOT fk off dude. You are not worth the fee YOUR club is claiming for you, PERIOD.

Anonymous said...

That's tyrue- now suddenly fabregas wants to play in Barcelona.. where was that desire year ago? Nope. Unless he does sth to indicate he wants to be back- we shouldn't even consider him.
