Villa decides to stay at Valencia

Despite the statements of Barcelona president Joan Laporta yesterday saying at a press conference that Valencia striker and Spanish international David Villa (27) is still an option, Valencia regional sports paper Superdeporte claims that Villa has decided to stay at Valencia.

Villa would yesterday have informed Valencia president Manuel Llorente by phone about his decision not to leave Valencia this summer.

The club and the player would now have agreed that they will give a joint press conference next week to explain the events of the coming weeks. Valencia will reportedly say that they had been putting the player on the market and that Villa never pressured the club to let him go to Madrid or Barcelona.

To bad we didnt got him, he would fit in to Barças style better than Zlatan.
And he would be alot, alot cheaper than Zlatan also.

wtf!!! get lost dude... atleast now lets finalise Ibra! pls Ibra is lots better than paying 35 mil for Forlan and letting Eto go for free next summer. think about it.

manolo :
how is Villa cheaper than Ibra? lets do the math. 50 mil for Villa + 25 mil gone from Eto's sale (who's gonna leave for freee next summer if Inter dont give the ok for him). and we might have to give Keirrison on loan.

Ibra - 40 mil cash + Eto (25 mil) + Hleb (loan with a buy option worth 8 mil). totals 80 mil approx.

Ibra deal is lot better as we could keep hold of Keirrison if we offficially announce it. an extra striker.

Manolo said...

Yeah he's but pay 45€ (maybe) and sell Eto'o for around 25-30 € would be good.
then we just loose 15-20 €
In the Ibra case we loose around 40€ + 2 players! Valued to 80€ (all costs)
think about it.

The "Eto"o will go for free" is not a convincing argument if you buy players from 27 or 28 and give them a contract for four-five years with a wage no club can match.

Villa and Ibrahimovic will ALSO leave for free (having costed far more than Eto'o) in four or five years.

Anonymous,are you serious?

When a player is 34 years old he has no market value. Thats why you cant put him in the balance of gain and loss.

Eto'o case is another thing.

Too bad... He missed his last chance to play for a big club and fight for CL...

I loved to have Eto'o on our side, when he was at his best that is. I dont know how many times i've pulled my hair in despair (oooh) watching Eto'o miss the one given opportunity after the other. And his first touch is not Barca-class. It's pretty bad actually. However he had an intensity and hunger on the field that I have'nt seen in many other footballers. Ibra's technique and strength supersedes that of Eto'o and I dont think Ibra is that far behind in the goalscoring either. The one concern is Zlatans work-rate. Is he willing to put in the same kind of pressure Eto'o did? I don't think so, but on the other hand Ibra has other qualitys such as a good passinggame and a great playmaker-eye. My conclusion is that the two players probably are equals when their qualitys is measured and added up. Therefore it is a good deal for Barca because there is certainly something rotten in the state of Denmark ragarding the relationship between the club and Eto'o and it will most certainly affect the whole team and undermine Pep's authority. And that can simply not be allowed. As much as I hate the idea of loosing Eto'o in this way I can think of no other solution. in this proposed swap-deal we get a great player in Ibra and get rid of a potentional atomic bomb ready to go of any day. It is a tough situation, but I think it will be for the best for Barca. And that's what it is all about, yes?

Goal.com is saying that Etoo is demanding 10 million/year from Inter and 25 million compensation from Barca. I can't wait to see what the Etoo defenders say about this.

This guy is a complete moron. Yes he has done a lot for Barca, but it was Barca that put him on the world stage and he shouldn't forget that.

I hope everyone now sees how important it is for this guy to leave.

Inter pay zlatan 12.5 mill a year so 10 mill is not that much.Arent we paying valdes 7 mill a year? As for the 25 million, how does sky sport italia know what etoo is asking barcelona for?

Anonymous said...

Last season we were playing the best football in the world, and I will agree that Villa probably looks more like Eto'o and suits the system better than Zlatan...........but as we have seen from Pep he's a perfectionist, and I think that with Zlatan he can develop the best football in the world to the "next level".
We also have to close the Keirrison deal to create the depht that Pep wants for next season. I think he has the quality, and the fact that he has a buy-out clause for barca in his contract which is cheaper than his price is really shows that he wants to play for the club.

That was exactly what was said last year. We nevertheless won the treble...

Someone Somewhere said...

barca4life, I don't care how much he asks Inter, he can ask for a 100 million for all i care, but the fact that he's asking for 25 million compensation from Barca says a lot.

It's like he's telling Barca if you don't pay me i'll make sure this deal falls through...you're stuck with me this year and I go on a free transfer next year. That's not exactly professional behavior.

If Barca was releasing him i'd understand him asking for compensation (still not 25 million though)

Ramzi said...

Do you seriously really actually /Insert any word/ believe this 25 Millions rumor?

Barcelona would have put the 25 M over the 40-45 M (as the news claim) and bought Ibra straight forward :)

Mind you, I am not even taking the whole Ibra done deal seriously yet. Not till its official. But still.

Goal.com mostly takes stories from anti-Barça sites like As and Marca, so be aware of that. They often take stories that give a bad reflection of Barcelona.

And Eto'o can ask what he want, it's Barcelona who wants to cancel the contract they signed...

Adding to what Ramzi says: then it would be easier for Barcelona to just rescind the contract (so they would only have to pay him one-year salary or something).

Someone Somewhere said...

Ramzi, if it was AS or Marca claiming this i'd have my doubts but it was Sky Sports Italia. The deal between Barca and Inter has already been agreed so it's not like Inter is trying to strong arm Barca for more money.

I'm not saying Barca wouldn't have included it in it's overall assessment of the deal, I just think that Etoo and his agent just came out with it to screw Barca since the deal is all but done. Due to Etoo's past behavior i'm inclined to believe it.

Someone Somewhere said...

Trez, I think that's what Etoo and his agent are aiming for. They want Barca to rescind it so he can negotiate with whoever he wants without having Barca benefit in anyway.

The compensation part of the story is from Sky Sports Italia not AS or Marca.

trez said...

Did you heard it yourself on Sky Sports or you just believe what goal.com says? And what's the source of Sky? Probably some Marca or As report.

Be a little more critical towards the media.

trez said...

"The deal between Barca and Inter has already been agreed"

Inter didn't confirm that yet, so don't say that as if it's the truth. Besides, there's also still Ibra whose agent clearly said yesterday there was no deal. Making Zlatan accept a pay cut will be as difficult as convincing Eto'o to leave.

Blaugrana1 said...

This ibrahimovic deal seams more believable than villas....

On Barca's Official Website, they say that there is principle agreement with inter, and it depends on the player now.

Someone Somewhere said...

I'm not going to do this tit for tat with you, so we'll see I guess. The fact that Man City Adebayor's deal is stalling isn't helping either. I'm just putting 1 and 1 together.

In any case, I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

Marc4barca said...

you know the eto fans will find some way to defend him but i don't believe the 25mil compensation fee at all. he never asked for it before, why now and this is his last chance to leave barcelona and prepare himself for ACN cause if he stays at barca he will definitely be playing back up or not play at all.

Unknown said...

If Eto'o destroys this deal with his intentional demands to hmper this deal then when he does leave eventually he will never be loved or seen as a legend, all he has done and achieved will be swept under the carpet...and this will be a shame for a country like cameroon because Im sure a country especially one coming from the third world prides itself with a spectacular sportsman being one of them.

For Eto'os sake I hope he leaves in peace because otherwise I will go nuts that even I don't know what I will do!

I know this is an unpopular suggestion, but think it would be smart to buy Adriano. He has said that he is ready for Europe again, and he would be very cheap to buy. We have seen his quality before, I know it's some years ago. It's a chance to take just for the depht in the squad.
I think Pep can turn him back to his best again.

Good luck to you David Villa for deciding to stay, its a great shame as we would have loved to have you at Barca, a player like you deserves to be part of what Barca has achieved and will achieve. Unfortunately with valencia you will not ever winn anything credible only maybe a preseason tophy if your lucky...but at nearly 28 time is certainly against you.

trez said...

"On Barca's Official Website, they say that there is principle agreement with inter, and it depends on the player now."

Laprta said it depends on the playerS (Eto'o, Zlatan, Hleb) and on all parties involved (which also includes the clubs, principal agreement is no final agreement). He also said he spoke with Eto'o and that it's not a money issue for him.

Agent Eto'o: "we're glad to talk with Inter"
Agent Zlatan: "I didn't hear anything, we have time until August 31st"

change of subject. Botia contract with sporting doesn't prevent him from playing against barca so we will see him in the first league match against barcelona if he starts for sporting gijon, this will be a stern test for him i am hoping we win but botia have a good game as well.

I've checked 'superdeporte' but there was no article about Villa's Staying at Valencia. Where is the source?

Unknown said...

this is BS... infact i feel it was villas job to push for barca even more. Villa is the classic example of underrated , he will never have mass appeal for the same reason , he plays for valencia. He had the chance to join a treble winning behemoth like barca and he sticks with valencia, a team to be honest that is sinking..but oh well i gess it keeps competition alive in la liga ...

i certainly hope ibra is worth his price tag. I meen he has no reason not to succeed with the best attack in the world on his right in messi ,our revived arsenal legend henry, the best midfield ball supply duo in the world of iniesta - xavi and our wall in the center toure, so one would think ti would be easy for him to adapt. Plus i also think he would flourish due to his natural creativity something that eto'o lacked as a hitman. The point is if he wins us the league and a few trophies all will be forgotten ...if not we all know how vocal us barca fans can get.

Well Villa Case Close :(
