Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia reports that Catalan architect and Barcelona socio Emili Vidal wants to build the new Camp Nou stadium off the coast of Barcelona.
Vidal thinks that the remodelling of the existing stadium won't solve certain problems and proposes to build a new stadium on an artificial isle off the coast. The new stadium would have 150 000 seats.
Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims, based upon club sources, that Barcelona doesn't support this new project and isn't linked with the authors. The club would continue to work on the basis of the proyect by British architect Norman Foster on the remodelling of the current Camp Nou.

damn thats a stadium barcelona deserves.the best team should have the best stadium.i really hope this goes through.it will require alot of money but it will boost the teams marketing to the sky.also 150.000 seats omg!!!!
wish this is true
WOW!! HOLY CRAP is all i can say
A big no.. Camp Nou is like a graveyard every time we face minor teams like Valladolid etc. Imagine what it would be like with 150 000 seats. Sounds like a big waste of money.
even when we play Real Madrid the stadium is AlMOST full so we better stick wish Fosters project.
It won't happen but could you imagine a El Clasico meeting or a CL semi-final return leg? The opponents would be scared shitless and blown away by the sheer magnitude of it all.
If you drop the prices, you can attract more fans. And this would be closer to the centre, so tourists would be more willing to join. And if we stop playing at 22 pm, that would also help to attract families. And you can build a stadium in a way that empty seats are less noticed.
If you drop the prices then the purpose of having more seats (more money) is gone.
There are already lots of tourists at Camp Nou just like it is on Old Trafford, Emirates etc. etc.
They will not stop playing matches at night in Spain, it's part of a long tradition and part of their culture. I would love it if they played late games in the rest of the world too, football should be an evenning entertainment just like CL is.
I think this project could cost at least 10 billion euros. We are talking about an artificial island and that is extremeley expensive.
We are also forgetting the historical importance of the Camp Nou for the club. We have played there for more then 50 years.
"If you drop the prices then the purpose of having more seats (more money) is gone. "
You aren't a big math-fan are you?
This depends on how much more seat and how much cheaper..
This looks brilliant, but i agree with some here, to get it filled.. And the price tag is also brilliant;.
@ Simon: If you drop the prices then the purpose of having more seats (more money) is gone.
Not entirely if you drop them less than what you gain by more seats old. And you'll get more revenues by more people spending on merchandise and related stuff. The stadium also would include apartments and places to spend your free time.
barcelona can offer special deals for kids or schools too,and if the time of the games is earlier the stadium will have more people and barcelona will create more fans . also every tourist that goes to barcelona will want to see the great camp nou 2 and will probably buy sth from the boutiques ,so by marketing its a great idea...
No fucking way!
Any person who has ever been at the Camp Nou will be opposed to the idea. The vibes getting there is amazing all the fans gather from all across the city all around the Camp Nou, the neighbourhood it lies in, it's all part of the magic. this is way too egocentric. We show our worth with our football and approach to it, not with bling bling.
It would be great but,I don't think it is very necessary. We already have the best and the biggest stadium in the world.
@ SimonP
Actually, if you drop prices, the purpose is still served.
Revenue = Price x Quantity
If you drop the price but increase the quantity, you can still maintain the same revenue. What you're forgetting is that with more people coming in, you have huge positive externalties. The more people that come in, the more people visit la Botiga, the more people who buy merchandising, the more money the club makes...etc
Bottom line - you want to sell as many seats as you can, even at a lower price.
waste of money, to be honest. and anyways, the board is against this, so its not happening. i like the multicoloured camp nou more.
Simon P
You are as dumb as my jerk ass Rott. if you drop prices ,people will come, when people come, who knows, the stadium might be too full and cannot contain more,so,we build a bigger stadium!!!!!!!!! like this one.
Dan R
football nowadays is all about bling-bling.i mean, just look at ETO and VALDES.to all eto lovers out there,i just have a feeling that he MIGHT ask for the 25 MILLION € compensation from our club.wouldn't that hurt?our club can't even splash in 50million cash in.i mean ,if eto takes 25million,then he is not loyal and does not show barca respect.
i don't agree with tengku and all of the others thinking about this stadium.we are just wasting our money dude.i mean, think,we don't have 5 billion in the bank so,better not be another valencia.
What a joke lol
There is a thing called tradition adn passion. Not a lot clubs have it nowadays. But Barca has it. With this, all would dissappear.
dropping prices? ticket prices are already far cheaper than in England, so that's not really an option.
barca's own island wow. impressive, but how much would it cost the club? can they even own reclaimed land there?
funny idea but thats a real waste of money! will never happen! we are talking about Barcelona and not Dubai!
That would be awesome!
That's Arab style right there. This is the shit that happens in UAE and not in Spain. I can see Man City doing something similar (I know Manchester has no water, but you get the point)!
Great idea but would be a waste of money that the club cannot jeopardize in doing. Valencia's problem right now.
Also, cannot replace the 50 years of magic of the Camp Nou and it will never be sold out. NO 10 pm kickoffs or cheaper tickets can guarantee it will always be sold out. Just CL and some of the big league games but the club averages maybe close to 60-70 thousand tops.
No way!!! Building a new stadium would put the club in debt (ex. Valencia) and we will not risk being in that position
Trichampions the Camp Nou is not the Biggest stadium in the world is Strahov stadium (capacity 220,000) in Prague
The nou camp is fantastic but imagin haven a nou camp on the sea with 150.000 seats but however we would have no money for players.it would cost a hell of a lot of money to build that and its just not goen to happen.did i read on this blog that laporta has nearly wiped out barcas death?.if so what a man,he"s the best president we have had [not counting his little speaches on tv of course] and its a pity he cant be reelected next year cause he"d be gettin my vote.3 la ligas,2 champions leagues,1 cupa del ray and 2 spanish super cups.amazing if you think of the crap we had to put up with before he came.5 years of nothing and just scraping into the champions league, thank god for rivaldo and his bicycle kick.legend
Looks like a blitzball stadium from FFX (screenshot?) :D
Pie in the sky stuff. Looks amazing but is completely not practical.
