Gai has his Spanish passport

Barcelona has officially announced that Barcelona Atlètic wing attacker and Israel youth international Gai Assulin (18) has obtained the Spanish nationality, which will allow him to play with the first team next season (read more here).

Asked about the new situation, Gai told the club's official media that he was very happy: "This is very important for me, because without the passport I couldn't make my debut with the first team. A new door has now been opened, this is a great advantage but the most important thing is now to keep on proving myself on the pitch.

I saw some of my team-mates making their debut with the first team and I guess I was jealous in a healthy way. I don't know if I get my chance soon. It's a decision the coaches should make. For me, it's just about giving my best and trying to add as much as possible to the team in which I play."

He isn't that good. Weak and slightly stupid and frustrating to watch at times.

wala lets remember he's 18. hes fantastic for his age and this is important to his growth. because i know he wont be a cemented first team player this year but we just need that youth spark from him every once and a while and im curious to see how he and bojan play together

i would like to know how wala came to the conclusion that gai is stupid??

it's clear to me that your watching the wrong person cause gai is pretty good for his age. it's about time we created a ronaldinho lol

He makes alot of wrong decisions when playing. I don't talk about his IQ, but his stupid decisions. Thiago is also 18, but far better and more mature.

the more available youth depth for copa games, the better!

Well the midfielders must have the biggest IQ on the field. I think. His maturity will come later, do you remember Cristiana Ronalda's first season at Man Utd. He was dribbling with no effect at all. Two years after he started to make assists and plays for his team mates. I am not worried about Gai's maturity, it is his playing time that worries me, knowing Pep's substituting during games

Well, Thiago is a much better player in every way, so Gai has to improve massively if he ever wants to be good enough for this team.

Iago Falque was our best prospect.... Sad we lost him. But im excited to see Gai on the first team pre season tour. Thiago is very good too, right now probably Barca's best prospect along with Gai and Muniesa.

iago falque best prospect?lol thats the funniest thing iv heard in recent times.....he was 18 when he left us and still dint get promoted to barca athletic....he knew he dint have a chance to succeed at barca so he left...and gai was always and is still our best prospect along with thiago...

iago falque isn't nearly as good as fran merida who left to go arsenal, the cesc story all over again.

Thiago more mature than Gai? What a joke.

seriously wala your arguements have no teeth. you cant just say thiago is much better in everyway without any reason. gai was out injured for the important part of the season last year and is an explosive talent. no need to bring up thiago we all agree hes good too, but to say gai is nothing to look forward to makes it hard to believe you really have been monitoring his progress. be excited we have a serious back up option and future prospect. nothing more than that but much better than most teams can say

GAI. Woo Hoo. I hope he gets his chance. Pep is said to have a very high opinion of gai, they called him the jewel in the crown of la masia. Lets remember messi wasnt that much physically when he came into the first team too. Be patient and we may see a star.

ratty88: Gai is much weaker than Thiago, loses the ball much more easily, makes stupid decisions very frequently. The only thing he is better at than Thiago is pace. But Thiago is no winger, he is superior to Gai, has a wicked shot, far better technique and makes much better decisions. Why should I be so excited about Gai when he just isn't that good? He will not be good enough this season and I really doubt he will ever be good enough.
