Puyol considering Barcelona exit

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Barcelona central defender and Spanish international Carles Puyol (31) still hasn't made a decision on his future.

Barcelona would have offered the catalan centre-back, whose contract expires at the end of the current season, an extension for two more years with a lower fixed salary and higher incentives.

Puyol would be postponing a decision and reportedly wants to wait and see what will happen once Márquez has recovered from his injury and Chygrynskiy has settled in.

If he doesn't get enough playing time this season, Puyol would be unlikely to sign a new contract and would prefer to move to a club where he would be a fixed starter (read more
here). English Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City are said to have contacted the agent of the player while AC Milan would also be interested.

Sport (Catalan) said the same last week, so there at least the "it's Madrid press" argument doesn't work...

You have to admit that it's rather strange that both Marquez and Puyol didn't yet sign the renewal they have been offered at the end of last season.

I know fcbee,i just want to give these comment readers a better day and yea, it is strange that they haven't signed a renewal yet.

Marquez, I'm not quite sure, but Puyol will stay guys. He'll obviously understand that a new defender was brought in because they are getting old and he would definitely work for the better of the club

Pep, can you provide the official caricatures of our squad... If I'm not mistaken each player is assigned one official caricature of his own right? Caceras had his during his presentation, Henrique he'd have been happier if he was given one during his presentation...

if he goes just because we signed cheegy and he is also thinking about maquez, that means he is not a true cule as he use to say.but i believe he will never leave.

I don't believe this bullshit at all..and those who doubt his skills as our leader of defence are ignorant, puyi is a king!

Please make a post about Keirrison goal. What kind of match was this? Europa League?

Typical Keirrison goal it seems, at the right place at the right time. Not doing anything except tap it in. :)

I found out the Keirrison goal was only a freaking friendly! I guess we will have to wait a long time before Keirrison actually gets to play a regular game for Benfica. What a huge mistake it was to loan him out to that club. Ubelievable really.

Not a mistake to loan him out at all. He's very young when you think of how massive a move he just made is, so it's ideal for him to have gone to a country of his native tongue to help him settle in a different hemisphere; he wouldn't be straight in the Barca team, and there are people who have been at the club longer, through the ranks, and have earned the right to fight for a place after being promoted this season and last. He is more likely to get first team action with Benfica, when he's worked for it, and so will be improving and not getting restless. His interview after being loaned out suggested he was very positive about how it all transpired.

So, basically, you're just very wrong in calling his loaning out a huge mistake.

And I'd be surprised if Puyol leaves at all, and certainly not yet. I do think he will be phased out this season, and next in particular, as we have the best young CB in the world, a captain in the making as his understudy, in Pique. And with the other options we now have, it's looking good.

In Pep we trust? Bloody better do..

NO!!!!!!!

this guy are not going anywhere, just remember what pep said after the summer break; puyol is going nowhere and he will play where i tell him to play

why does it always have to be speculations every time a barcelona player is going to sign a contract i'm beggining to get pretty bored at it

If a contract expires, it's the player who decides so Guardiola can then say what he wants. And like soemone said: it it takes three months, and the first talks were probably already in 2008, one can start to wonder what's going on.

man puyol is the best defender we have. he is the soul of barca. i hope this news is not true

Verrus! Keirrison isn't closer to first team place in Benfica! He would have already played for us this season if he had been with us, while he still hasn't played for Benfica, already 3 games into the league season.

"AS"sholes, what was maldini to milan thats puyol for US, END OF STORY

HOSNI said...

Puyi is a barça son he wants to be a legend at barça and he must be thinking if its not worth to leave barça at the peak of his form like guardiola did rather then retiring after a season on the bench...iam sure that he is also intrested by a futur career as a coach and ahead of this goal it is intresting to discover another league another club another environement...just like Guardiola did

HOSNI said...

and i agree with you all "AS" Suck ,they are madrid fans and they cant even hide it : when they compared robben to messi, when they claim that barça treble is due to referees assistance (yes they said it), when they escape robben and sneider interview because both of them are criticising the madrid circus
