Messi renewal negotiations to start this week

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Jorge Messi, the father and agent of Barcelona right wing attacker and Argentinian international Lionel Messi (22), will arrive in Barcelona today and is expected to start contract renewal negotiations with the club in the coming days.

Barcelona wants Messi to keep on being the highest paid player of the squad, which wouldn't be the case anymore after the club signed Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Barcelona would offer Messi, who would now be earning 8 million euro plus a possible 2,6 million euro in incentives, a new contract worth 9,5 million euro plus higher incentives a year. The player's buyout clause would be doubled to 300 million euro.

Jorge Messi is quoted by the paper as saying that, although Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain didn't yet contact him to start negotiating, he's very calm about the matter: "We're very relaxed because Barça contacted us several times during the past season to tell us that there would be a renewal in the summer. So we're very calm."

Our salary burden is becoming really heavy. Only good thing is that we have few players. Some other clubs have squads of close to 30 players, while we don't even have 25.

i never really understand the concept of raising players wages to make a point in the team, just because zlatan gets paid more doesn't mean is better than messi or more important if anything the reason messi should be getting this raise is cause of last year's performance not cause zlatan get's paid more this just makes the other players feel less important and i agree with fcbee to some extent with the squad low we aren't suffering but it could harm us in the future and it's causing some players difficulty to leave cause they getting paid so much.

Okay, but the players between 25 and 30 maybe get 1 million, so in the end that doesn't count too much if you have on the other end a lot of players who earn 5 millions or more. Guess Iniesta and Xavi would now also deserve a rise, this never stops.
