Catalan sports paper Sport claims Valencia striker and Spanish international David Villa (27) could now be willing to go one step further in facilitating his transfer to Barcelona.
Valencia president Manuel Llorente would be holding out for at least €50 million for Villa's transfer while Barcelona president Joan Laporta would have decided that €42 million was the maximum offer Barcelona could make. Sport speculates that Villa could be willing to pay the difference of €8 million between the clubs' valuations by lowering his personal financial agreement with Barcelona.
Villa would have to lower his wage agreement with Barcelona from €7.5 million net per season down to €5.5 million net per season, amounting to €8-10 million over 4 or 5 years. Sport believes Villa would be willing to do this because even at €5.5 million net Villa would more than double his current wages at Valencia.
This would have come after Villa unsuccessfully argued for his release during a meeting on Monday with Valencia president Manuel Llorente in Madrid.

Let's see if it goes through
my dear, he really wants to come!!!!!
shit, when a footballer decreases his salary, you know hes desperate.
this is of course, the second good news in 12 hours. im so happy.
woww...if he does this i really want villa ..coz he wants barca much more than money .... and has the desires to succed and will contibute much more to the team ..!!!!
again i belive laporta is right paying above 42m is not good for club so i believe this is the only way for villa to join us and after maxwell transfer this transfer will also get thru ..!!!
if he does that, my respect for him would go thru the roof.
xaviniesta
if he do this he will become the HERO OF BARCA and barca should support him so well...he is the best striker in the world now and i won't suprise if barca wins the trble again for this season... I'm desperate to see villa in barca shirt
MESSI+VILLA+HENRY+INIESTA+XAVI = THE BEST FORWARD LINE EVER
villa is a brilliant replacement for eto'o and if this story is true, this gesture shows just how badly he wants to win trophies and give it his all in the barca shirt. sound like a win for us!
Actually he can use the Fifa Article 17 / The Webster ruling to buy out of his contract since he has been with Valencia since 2005.
David Villa signed a new contract last August and is not eligible for a release via the Webster ruling.
sounds good to me, we saved 8 million by going with maxwell
yeah i agree he is desperate to join us,and we are desperate to get him too. he is world class and fits us perfeclty.
but dont say he lowers his contract.he now has 2,5-3mil contract getting 5,5mil is almost doubling his money, money that he wouldnt get if not for a transfer ,so villa too will gain alot from this transfer ,even though he will gain less cause valencia board is greedy.i think he will agree to a 5,5 mil contract, and if he plays good i bet a renewal will come for him next summerat 7,5, so no sweat.
just get it done already,i am happy we started moving at last(maxwell :) )
this story seems too good to be true, but EMD has the story as well, so who knows...hope it happens
if this is true i would like villa a lot because he is such a great striker (on of the best 3 alongside eto'o and ibrahimovic) and neither a prima donna nor a greedy guy
Get him come on...that's the spirit and commitment we want...Go Get Him, Rescue Hime Barca
lets just wait a day or two and see if this is true.hopefully it is and we ll have the best striker in the world up front for us next season.
even if he does double his wages for a player not to milk as much money out of a club as possible is very rare, would have made a good impression with us before even getting on the pitch. villa with kerrsion/bojan as back up would be a very good transfer period.
i pray we'll be able to wrap this up soon...and quickly.
This is such cheese, I can't believe this article. Who would pay 8 million euros and then get a pay cut of 2 million euros per year? That would amount to a total losses of 16 million euros.
If Villa does that, it will probably be unprecedented. Still, I don't believe a word of this article or Mundo Deportivo's corroboration of the article.
He's only losing the 8mil that are coming out of his yearly wage that would ultimately amount to 8 mil, not coming straight out of his actual pocket. Having Villa as a striker would be phenomenal for the team. Hope this deal comes through. It's the one I've wanted all summer!
Sport and Superdeporte are saying that his agent is going to call Llorente today and ask what their "scandalous" asking price is so that he can report it back to Barcelona. Considering the fact that we have marginally saved some money on Maxwell deal and also putting this report in context of it all, it is hard to see him not joining Barcelona this summer.
Touche ViCule. I didn't think of it that way. Still, 8 Million is an insane amount. I still don't believe it. This dude may not be a merceneray, but he surely is no altruist either.
If Villa really does that then i must say - He is God !!
Please rescue him Barca :)
Granted it's a bunch of money for us poor people but if he's willing to give up some money, that's probably sitting nice and pretty in his bank account, more respect for the guy. What's 8mil when you can play for the best team in the world! and actually guarantee himself some silverware. hopefully three pieces! instead of rotting away in Valencia.
its 8mil reportedly i believe they can lower that and hes getting a 2x's pay raise granted its not what they originally agreed on but if eto'o leaves which he most likely will if we get villa then villa will be our spanish savior and a great example to bojan
