Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims that a new meeting between Inter Milan officials and Josep Maria Mesalles, the agent of Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28), started at 3 pm this afternoon. The meeting is expected to last for two hours.
Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Inter president Massimo Moratti will meet with Mesalles at 4 pm. The official announcement on a deal would be near. Inter and Eto'o would sign a five-year contract worth 10,5 million euro (plus incentives) a year. The Cameroonian striker would already be in Milan and once there's a formal deal, Eto'o is expected to undergo the medical tests tomorrow.
The paper also claims that Barcelona will in the end pay 50 million euro° plus Eto'o plus a one-year loan of Hleb (with Barcelona paying the entire salary) for Inter Milan forward and Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic (27).

50 million euro =
71 million us dollar
43 million british pound
slovan:
It just gets worse and worse. 50m euros plus Hleb's total salary as well? Hleb earning 4m net, so 55.5m euros plus Eto'o for Zlatan!
50 million :-O? and paying the salary of Hleb :-O..
I was always defending the eto'+money deal because of the eto-pep-problem and the expiring contract, but 50 mill is bit too much.
"insideknowledge" mentioned it would be less on another topic here.. Hope when it's all signed, we get some better news.
With the 70 mill budget we approx had, there's only 15 remaining: 50 ibra + 5 max.
If we sign keirrison like it seems for about 10 mill, we've got just some pocket money left..
Lol, i have seen between 35 and 50 million euros claimed. The Italian side seem to be claiming the higher values. I guess we wont know for sure until its officially announced.
That is too much!
We would almost get C. Ronaldo, as priced by Madrid, with Ibra's overall transfer fee!
we could 've bought benzema & tried to sell eto'o for 10 mill.. Not the talent of Ibra, but with the money left, we could 've made squad better at other places.
Happy days!!!
Who says theres credit crunch?
I don't think we can afford any more signings after this. Wasn't we supposed to make our squad bigger? With Caceres, Sylvinho, Gudjohnsen, Hleb and Eto'o all out, they need to be replaced with 7 players next season to increase our squad depth.
We have already spent 75m euros on Zlatan, Maxwell and Keirrison (55.5m for Zlatan and 4.5m for Maxwell).
Stupid. Stupid...
50 Mio + Eto ´o + Hleb on loan and paying his Salary....
Ibra is good, but not thar good
We've gone a little mad in Guardiola's obsession to get rid of Eto'o, it seems. Weren't we the ones criticising just one month ago that Madrid was paying out-of-market prices?
Besides, Zlatan is soon 28, and we may have to look for another striker in just a couple of years. The way we overspend when buying and selling our players dirt cheap is just incredible. Our negotiators are really hurting our club.
we could've do this we could've do that.. yet its not OFFICIAL..
stop complaining it ain't officiel so we don't know yet!
why didnt they just pay 50 mill for villa
good luck etoo
I hope the deal is done soon and etoo drama ends. True cules like me are fed up with uncertainity. I am eager to see Zlatan skills and tricks in a barca jersey. He will be a game changer just like messi.
Geez, we're getting completely raped in this deal. And people said paying 50 million for Villa was too much! It's seems like a bargain compared to this.
Ibra had better become one a phenomenon at Barca, otherwise football fans everyone will be looking at us and laughing.
Every time I hope this transer won't be that much, but it's just getting more expensive.
I still hope the official announcment will be about 30m + Eto'o + Hleb on loan. (or less)
it's stupidity to pay such amout for Ibra.., we could sign Adebayor or Tevez for 1/3 of money we paing for him.. and i wouldnt say that they are much worst., they are younger and offcourse theyr's wages ar much smaller.
That 10 million extra is because of Guardiola saying yesterday he want Eto'o to leave...
Before I get the AEA (Anti-Eto'o Army) over me: it's a joke!
;)
At least we are not paying 50m (36m+taxes) and Eto'o for Forlan, which we would probably have tried to do if Zlatan deal fell through.
Eto needs to go at whatever cost. dont you get? its a "feeling"
lol @ those saying its not "official" yet it wasnt "official" when we heard Eto wanted 12Mil Euro from Inter, yet we had "True Barca Fans" jump on the band wagon, calling him "greedy"
good deal.Every one will see soon enough how much he is worth what a player and what a bargin 2nd best player in the world behind messi. We have the best team in the world by far now.last year we needed height to croos in to with alves, inesta and xavi's great passes he will score about 40-45goals next season.
Ibrahimovic9:)
be happy its better than us buying forlan
unbelivible...., WTF board are doing. they hade grate year, and now they fucking up with this kind of transfer strategy.
Patient guys, this is released by Italian media. Of course they will inflate the number for the sake of media's need.
I am sure the number will be less than that, around 10 - 20 million without hleb's salary. Let's see how it goes after it officially announced
I dont remember any other barca legends creating so much fracas before. Rivaldo, ronaldinho, laudrup et al just eased into transfers once they were put up in market. Anyways I hope our squad will be all set for the upcoming US tour.
We shouldn't forget that Pep wanted Eto'o out last summer as well, and replace him with Adebayor. Would we have won the Treble with Adebayor instead of Eto'o? I doubt it.
Pep's skills as a coach is unquestionable, but his decisions on the transfer market isn't the best.
Stop blaming Eto'o, praths. Laudrup? You must be joking, his contract expired and he left for Madrid. Rivaldo also left for free. Ronaldinho first rejected a better offer from City.
Can people first study the history of the club before making statements? Thanks.
This is insane. Resign Laporta!
Let's wait for the official numbers before we have a final judgment.
Just this one note: What I don't understand is that we would pay Hleb's full salary. That way, we lose a player, have to pay his salary, make extra costs to sign a new player to repalce himand pay the salary of that new player. And the taxes in Italy are higher so that would mean we would actually pay Hleb more so he could keep the same net salary.
@fcbuy, I used to respect etoo before but after the press conference i lost everything for him ( same with most cules, just see the comments in ED/Sport/tv3/lagaurdia). Remember even though ronaldinho was benched for half the season and was literally being pushed, he did not call out press conference and criticize the board. Because he was a professional and not just a mercenary. As far as laudrup and rivaldo are concerned, letz not get into details now.
Why not keep Eto'o for the remaining year and buy Villa with the 50 mil. We'll have both Eto'o (does enyone really believe he will not perform well next year for us) and Villa together for a whole year
Yeah, better not...
OMG we were reluctant to increase the offer for villa... i mean we could have sold eto to some club and i guess paid little more for villa and i guess had we increased the offer little bit it could have tempted valencia maybe...
but 50mill is bit too much.. hope the official confirmation will quote a smaller fee....
R10 said he was injured, tho the docs thhought he was not. So would you force an "injured" man to play? Get facts. And if you can get into details of Laudrup and Rivaldp, please do.
I think we need to get a new president and a new board for the club ...Zlatan is a great player but idk how he going do with Messi cause he (zlanta) tend to hold the ball more ...but we will see
And you've already forgot what an incredible pain in the neck Ronnie's brother has been for years?
But in the end, we also only remember the great things he has done. That's how it goes. Next year, Eto'o will be remembered as the guy who was crucial in the best era of the club ever.
We still don't know the exact figures but some people are trying to manipulate the numbers to fit their loyalties . Even assuming we pay Inter 40M + Eto'o + Hleb loan it does NOT necessarily make the total fee 70-80 M. Let's be realistic: Eto'o is basically worth around 15 M at best. He is 28 years old in the last year of his contract and he comes with baggage . Hleb is essentially worthless to the club . He contributed NOTHING to the treble . Having said that ,I think Ibrahimovic could end up costing us about 55M total which is NOT bad at all !!
fuck this barca dont know how to make a good deal...this is just throwing money away...ibrahimovic doesnt worth that much
Although I don't always believe what I hear from the press unless they are reporting an official announcement from the club, I think that 50M euros plus Hleb salary is way too much. We could have used that money to sign Villa or even to increase our current players wages. Heck we could have raised both Messi and Eto's wages to 10 MM euros. Plus the money for salary is spread over a few years. This deal makes no business sense at all unless they think they will make a shit load of money from Ibra's image rights and shirt sales.
more than 42 for villa is too much but 87,5 for ibracadabra is reasonable???
if laporta accepted these conditions then he destroyed some of his work of the past 5 years. it seems to me, he became insane after the treble.
"Eto'o is basically worth around 15 M at best"
????????????
forgotten the fee manchester city were about to pay? imagine the contract of eto'o would have been extended for 2 or 3 more years and imagine the swap deal would be done next summer.
how much would barca then pay additionally? max. 10 mio euro.
The reason why we're willing to pay Inter so much is not because the board is stupid. We obviously could pay the money for Villa but sorry Valencia wants to waste him in the Europa Cup since they have nothing else to play for. They're just hoping Villa gets them to the CL next year. Inter is not only selling us an amazing striker, but taking care of the soap opera we have with Eto'o. Eto'o is amazing but we have to get him out of Barça already
On the other hand, if these numbers are real then we are not the only ones who overpayed. I mean Eto'o is absolutely worth 10.5m a year for the next 3 seasons.(maybe 4)
But for the next _5_ seasons!
That sounds as insane like getting Ibrahimovic for 45m + Eto'o.
Why don't you say Eto'o is worth minus 50 and that we actually sign Zlatan for free...
@trez yes I do agree that nobody is pain free, but there is a line which you cannot cross. Remember etoo was forgiven for rants against ronnie and riijkard, incidents in dressing room and snubbing training practices under pep ? because in the end he did contribute in flashes like CL final and few crucial games. You cannot compare ronnie with him, becos ronnie was a game changer and he single handedly got us out of the rut innumerable times just like Messi. That little flash which changes the game and we will get the same in Ibra. I am 100% sure Pep is doing this for the best and you will see the results once the season gets under way. Right now if messi gets injured we are toothless and etoo cant do anything. Messi has indeed come off the bench and changed games last season, can you think of that in Etoo ? absolutely not.
OFFICIAL: Zlatan, please. I'm tired of checking the blog every two hours only to find updates about media's portrayal of Eto'o as a greedy bastard... :P
insane is that ibrahimovic will earn more than xavi or iniesta and nearly as much as messi. he is very good but we don't need one more play maker. we need a striker to scores aroung 30 goals each season. and there is noone better than eto'o. david villa would also fit very good. he would score 3 or 4 goals less than eto'o but that's okay. and eto's character was the same last season and look how he performed. they handled his character last season and the could handle it that season, too.
With the 50 million euros I think we should have just paid Eto a better salary and renewed his contract. We could have also increased Messi's wages as well.
Barcelona have been terrible negotiators in the past few years. i feel that we always pay other clubs top euro but when it comes to selling our players we always get short changed...sadly we probably have a reputation for that now. Barca needs to hire a top negotiator to handle transfers. Txiki and Pep can worry about who he wants the negotiator can negotiate better terms for us.
this is just waste of money. I really don't know what is in joan's head... real made better deal with ronaldo than barca will with ibra...this is way to much
"forgotten the fee manchester city were about to pay? " That is because Manchester City are filthy rich and stupid . They paid even more for Tevez . NO other club would ever offer around 30 M for Eto'o except MC !!
Everyone, calm down. Laporta out? Over a deal? Then what should the world do to Perez? Boil him in oil?
Eto'o, being in the last year of his contract AND a damaged relationship with the club, is worth about a nickel on the transfer market. Recall that Citeh was the only club that bid on him, and they only bid 25m.
Before asking ourselves why nobody bid on him, that's reality.
And Guardiola wasn't comfortable placing the club's title chances on a striker who wanted out and was going to leave on a free. Who here can blame him?
So what are the options at this point in time? Who can you replace Eto'o with and maintain or improve the quality of that position?
Villa. More of the same, but doesn't disappear on the wing, better first touch and shotmaking creativity. But he still isn't that classic "9" that Guardiola was craving. And Valencia wanted more than he was worth. 50m? No way.
Ibrahimovic? Guardiola has wanted him from the outset, to implement his sporting program. It's a risk. And when you want something, you have to be prepared to pay for it.
Inter valued Ibrahimovic at 80m. If it works out, his value to the club will be almost incalculable.
Most importantly, we have to trust Guardiola, Txiki and Laporta, who know far more than we do. And we aren't taking out loans to do this business, unlike other clubs, in keeping with Barca's history of fiscal logic that dates to Enrique Llaudet in the '60s.
Talent costs money. Are we overpaying? Yes. Is the risk worth it? Ask me at the end of the season, but if we have six trophies gracing the Camp Nou, I'm going to say yes. Absolutely.
He scored decisive goals in two CL finals and then you come and say he's not a game changer, praths.
What kind of Barça fan are you to take that away from him? Your Eto'o hate is ridiculous. He was a crucial player in two of the greatest period of the club (2004-2006 and 2008-2009), accept that.
Chill out guys we still ain't sure about the official figures this is all pure speculation by tabloids. Our board is not insane. Visca el barca.
Kevin: "And Guardiola wasn't comfortable placing the club's title chances on a striker who wanted out"
Guardiola wants him out, don't change facts.
correct, extend eto's contract and pay him a sum of 5 mio more for the next 3 years and you won 82,5 mio euro to spend for other issues.
look what xavi and iniesta did for us. what will they think seeing ibrahimovic coming to them and earning 3-4 mio more per season? and he did nothing for us. he never was the best player in europe or in the world. he never performed nearly as good as eto'o in finals. this could also lead to problems in the dressing room. they are fine with eto'o so why changing so much?
villa would earn 7.5 mio euro and he wanted to drop his salary to 5.5 mio euro to realise the transfer.
this is as insane as madrid's spending. maybe more because both kaka and ronaldo won something so far.
I think the board wants to get in a good position for next year's elections and is therefore spending big. Own interest before club's interest. One month aago thye had 30-35 millions, not more because we couldn't afford that and suddenly they find soem secret cage and have 60-80 millions to spend. Just read today in Sport they're gonna go in another 35 millions debt.
Moratti must be smiling. He gets Eto'o, he already has Milito and he has some more cash to spend now. You can't teach those italians any business lessons, that's for sure.
Kaka and Ronaldo also sell more shirts than Zlatan (who also will sell more than Eto'o probably, ok), let's be honest.
Everyone, calm down. Laporta out? Over a deal? Then what should the world do to Perez? Boil him in oil?
LOL.
That for me is the quote of the day.
Well said Kxevin.
Talent costs money. Are we overpaying? Yes. Is the risk worth it? Ask me at the end of the season, but if we have six trophies gracing the Camp Nou, I'm going to say yes. Absolutely.
And this right abt sums it all up
during the last season there was a news posted at this board saying laporta wants to be remembered as a good manager who created the base for the success for the period after the elections. o he wants to buy aguero. young. skillful. talented. maybe one of the best players in the next years.
laporta lowered the debts a lot within the last 5 years.
that's the laporta i remember. he is about to destroy that image.
@fcbuy, if Eto'o wanted to be part of this club, he would have renewed when the offer was extended to him during the season. The relationship is a mess, and both sides are culpable. At this point, it just needs to end.
Was the offer laden with layers, as in the club wanting the whip hand, rather than giving it to Eto'o by leaving him sit in the last year of his contract? You bet. Did Eto'o know that? Absolutely. He's very smart, and so is his agent.
So we can only conclude that yes, Guardiola wanted him out, but Eto'o didn't want to stay, either. Both sides are getting what they want: Eto'o goes to a contender, and gets his salary demands met. Guardiola gets his classic "9" type.
Now the results will speak for themselves.
@trez, I ain't degrading etoo's achievements by any means. All that I am saying is Pep is right, it is time to move on. If we get a player like ibra it would reduce the burden on messi and we can surely lift more titles. With a midfield like ours we can break any team's back with our new frontline. But i agree we shouldn't pay insanely. Letz wait out for official figures.
I agree with the summing up of messi108, but we should look in the long run too.. Is spending this much money(if it's true) on a 28 yr old, leaving almost no room for other positions whilst needed.
I agree that we can only judge it when it's official (the salary of hleb & the 50 mill), we'll know the truth about the eto'o-pep-board play when its done, or someday or maybe never.
But now we're in a situation where we need a top class striker
Hey we'll see.. I still stand by the fact that eto'o is top striker, but Zlatan is the better footballplayer & eto'o maybe a better goal scorer.
We still have leo, xavi, iniesta, Henry and who knows what might haben, still a month of action to go.
It is embarrassing that Mr.Stupid Moratti who has done the worst deals in football in the past, is making a fool out of us in this deal.
Where are we going to find any more money now to give our squad some depth after splashing out 75m euros on two strikers (with one going on loan) and a left-back? Are we really strengthening at all when we get rid of five players including Eto'o and replacing them with two players?
Kevin: "if Eto'o wanted to be part of this club, he would have renewed when the offer was extended to him during the season."
There was no offer. Guardiola didn't want him, you think the club would offer him a renewal against the will of the success coach. Oh yeah, there was th "show offer" the night before the press conference. Don't blame Eto'o for Guardiola wanting him out because of some "feeling".
@Kxevin, affirmative !
we should just sell eto'o, hleb and guddy and buy torres.
And anonymous, Laporta is most definitely a good president, fiscally and in terms of titles. Great success has come under his helm. He also took on the Boixos Nois, which made the Camp Nou a place where everyone could go, including families and the club has paid down debt.
Barca has become a global commodity, and TV riches are flowing. Messi shirt sales are off the charts, and the Miniestadi deal will also help. Intelligent investing and smart player acquisition strategies have also helped. Don't forget that 7 of the 11 starters in the CL Final came from the club system. They weren't purchased.
The club, despite the allegations of the likes of Oriol Giralt, has been in great hands under the tenure of Laporta, make no mistake about it. He will be a tough act to follow.
Another reason for this deal is probably that the current board wants to give Rosell no chance to do any top signing next summer.
With all key players (Messi, Zlatan, Xavi, Iniesta) having long and expensive contracts, there's not much room for new players... Smart move but not in the interest of the club
Sigh. Why do you continue to doubt? We have seen laporta bring ronaldinho and etoo, we have seen laporta bring guardiola. We have seen 2 Champions League titles in 4 seasons. We have seen 3 la liga titles in 5 years and we have seen one of the most succesful periods in our clubs history and yet still you doubt. What more do laporta and Guardiola have to for you to trust them?
Let me put my 2 cents in this, Ibra will be a bust next year he havent played in the barca system and it will take time to adapt to that system. When it comes down to it and all the details of this deal is out Ibra is worth as much as Kaka and even more.....Bad Bad Bad..We still need other players to strengthen the team. When I said earlier in the year Barca will make the same mistake after the 06 season I was right....They sign a few sub-par players and had to endure two hard trophy-less years...Here u go again.
No, fcbuy, the club wanted to talk renewal during the season, but Eto'o said that he didn't want to talk about contracts during the season, as that would distract him from the task at hand. I don't even view that SMS, last-ditch, for the same price nonsense as a real offer. Nor did Eto'o, for good reason.
Don't declare Laporta a saint, Kevin. He has been abusing Barça for his own business purposes too. his Uzbekistan connection is a shame for the club. He has been a good president (although others board memebers have done the dirty jobs) because of sporting and economic reasons, but he's no saint.
Fact is there was no offer, thanks for confirming that. If Barça wanted to renew, they could have done it immediately after the season (like they started talks with other postponed renewals). Then Eto'o was ready to talk, but nothing came.
What happens if Pep get the same "feeling" and personal issues with Zlatan? Get rid of Zlatan for 10m next summer? After all, Pep doesn't know Zlatan, so it is clearly a possibility that once again the emotions of certain people is put ahead of the club.
Whatever happened to having a professional attitude towards people, even if one can't be best friends?
Barca tried to renew during the season and etoo said no. Clear sign he was not serious. Xavi renewed Busquets renwed why wouldnt etoo. Makes you wonder eh?
Slovan if zlatan has 1 year left on his contract and is not signing a renewal and pep gets a feeling I'll say fine get rid of him for 10 million. And what do you care Madridista? Isnt Perez your idol? Why dont you go see what madrid is up to since u so want to be like them
Barca tried to renew him? Now why would they have made him an offer if guardiola wanted him out?
Puyol, Marquez, Valdes also didn't renew, b4l. Eto'o just said loud what everybody thought: now we must focus on the treble. And that was the right decision.
Guardiola has never liked Eto'o. It has gotten personal. He wanted to get rid of Eto'o last summer and replace him with Adebayor. Very lucky for us and Pep, Eto'o stayed and made a fool out of his doubters. Pep's hate for Eto'o is clearly costing us dearly.
If laporta is not saint for cules then who else ?? 2 cls, 3 leagues, copa after many years. Acquired best players in the world and reduced enormous deficit. I rem gaspart's period when we were struggling to compete in UEFA cup !, so phrase words carefully b4 criticizing board. Remember Sandro wanted to continue with ronnie ??
What is going on with Keirrison? There have been no news about him in almost 2 weeks and no one has been talking about him. Not the press, not the board. When are we going to sign him or will it fall through? Something dubious must be going on. Does anyone know something?
woah. that a lot for ibra! am i having a bad dream??
Guardiola wanted him out after the season when he realized etoo wanted the screw the club over. After he said it was just a job to him and mallorca was where his heart was. Dont play games. Etoo had his chance to renew and he did not want to. THIS CLUB WILL NOT BE HELD TO RANSOM at the whim and fancies of Samuel etoo. Either he signed the renewal or he left. Simple choice.
Keirrison has a bad smell. Some people are filling their pockets there, hope it's not our guys...
Fact is that there hasn't been a serious offer. Reason: Barcelona didn't want him to renew. You can twist and turn as long as you want.
I don't say it's wrong that they didn't want to renew him (history will tell), but you should acknowledge facts and not turn everything against Eto'o.
He got the renewal offer that he asked for the night before the press conference. If he wanted to stay he had a 2 year offer. Why not sign it? If he wanted to stay. His agent said they wanted the same terms. Why not sign if you want to stay
barca4life: Why do you feel desperate to prove that you are more of a Barcelona-fan than others with a different opinion than you, by accusing people and calling people names? Eto'o is the most hated player among madridistas, are the anti-Eto'o people madridistas? Please, stop with the name-calling and have a civilized discussion.
That was no serious offer and we all know it. Reason: Guardiola didn't want him, like he yesterday admitted.
I agree with what Anonymous posted up there. We should be going after Torres if we are going to break the Bank. This deal is only acceptable if it falls into Eto+ 20-35 million range. Maybe 40 is even acceptable
Who is desperate to prove they are a barca fan? all you talk about is madrid take 50% of image rights, madrid get high values when selling their players, madrid got a better deal for ronaldo, barcelona board is bad, barcelona are making a mistake, barcelona will be weaker. You are a Madridista, why dont you go across to marca or AS where you will be welcomed
Right!! A loan deal and we're going to pay his salary as well. So exactly what are Inter going to be for Hleb? A training ground?!, Surely not for a player that has european experience already and is 28. It just doesn't work. Name one oldie who was loaned and came back and starred and dont say Sheva or Crespo cause those failed.
Plus i dont think Hleb was included in the deal on the Official website, though i could be 100% wrong.
i think ibra is worth it becuz hes the best alaround striker along wit torres
What is wrong with taking 50% of image rights? Why not have a sensible discussion about it, instead of childish name calling. I don't accuse you of being madridista just because you dissagree with me and is anti-Eto'o. Only people who feel they have to prove their loyalty to the club would sink so low.
Just because you blindly support the board in every decision they make, does not make you any better Barcelona-fan than anybody else.
BarcaFan(BiH): "What is going on with Keirrison? " Guardiola was giving the impression( in his news conference) that the player was already signed and is going to be loaned out this season . Guardiola said that Kerrison is NOT in his plans . Why not ?
@fcbuy: "Barca tried to renew him? Now why would they have made him an offer if guardiola wanted him out?"
because laporta lied again and again and again and again that he want's eto'o to stay but eto'o has to accept the salary structure. and for everyone it looked like eto'o had a contract and he didn't sign. after eto'o manager gave a meeting to clarify eto'o situation, barca sent a last minute offer to eto's manager via sms. that's why. because they didn't want to be unmasked as liars.
@barca4life: and because of that eto'o was not willing to extend his contract. he wanted an contract improvement as he deserved but laporta didn't offer one more cent. laporta knew that eto'o wouldn't extend his contract. he worked very hard for that the whole season and at the end it was not valued by the board. if you give so much for a team and they treat you like crap, would you extend your contract?
i'm on eto's side. they wanted to get rid of him last season but he proved everybody wrong so that's the way to thank him.
laporta sucks and pep, too. this is not about football. it's about humanity and i'm very very disappointed with the board and pep.
Who says i am anti etoo? I said the board botched this situation badly and if you were on this board for any length of time you would know i was all for etoo staying until the press conference. Finally if all you can comment about is all the board is doing and all the good things madrid are doing chances are you are a madridista. I know you dont want zlatan because of his heritage in the same way some people hate bojan because of his heritage. I'm sure you think bojan is no good? Or am i wrong?
I think we need Keirrison in our club next season simply because we can't afford much more players now, and our squad is very thin.
Exactly how soon is "soon" :-).. I'm kinda longing for SOME news..
All of those who are "on etoo's side" and think pep sucks can go find an inter milan fan site in the next few hours. Pep is a Barcelona legend, and for people to insult him and call him a racist and say that he sucks proves that you are not really fans of FC Barcelona. You are fans of FC Samuel Etoo
Hey guys good to be back. Was here from the beginning of the blog but only used a name from the end of the season. Kxevin might remember me especially for backing Eto'o extremely passionately during last year's pre-season (all under my anonymous label, now i have a name)but all in respect and not like how some of you are doing it now. ANYWAYS.
On Eto'o:
I must say I have to say i must be the biggest Eto'o fan there is. That's my guy: hunger passion and never gets the credit he wants sometimes. Oh yea and the fact that he's "supposed to be" a Christian. I dont know for sure. In fact my nickname was Eto'o. They used to call me Ronaldihno but i switched to striker.Honestly i prefer my real name or Rivaldo, hehhe.Right!
I love the guy but i do honestly think it time to leave. It's gotten to ugly for both sides. It now just up to the business aspect for both parties. One thing i'm disappointed about both parties with tho is the fact that all of a sudden Barca becomes an air-your-dirty-linen Club. Man people usually respect use for our class and it shows one the field. This is the reason laporta won in the frist place, we were losing that especially after Figo and the other cagey dismismals. Be honest with yourselves guys. We'll never know what truly went on behind the scenes. All the black sheep comments and stuff....All we do is form opinions. You can't kill each other over opinions or shouldn't.
I think what is done now should be for the best of everyone in the most professional manner. I know people will say the both sides have gone past this point now. But let's start fresh.
HONESTLY FANS ARE FANS BUT JUST A WORD TO THE WISE AND ALSO TO THOSE WHO WOULDN'T PUT THEMSELVES IN THAT CATEGORY: IF you want Respect give it. Just a lil lesson I learned.
If you're going silly over a lil footballing issues especially not on the pitch take a lil time off think about what's really important. UNless you really have nothing else in your life and football is your all. Keep in mind after we all rant and rave these smile and wave at each other weeks down the road and are friends again. Yet we create enemies.
I wish you all well and Hopefully a great season for Barca. Be realistic with the team this season.
much Love and Concern
TAKE IT EASY GUYS.
Woow that money is too much for Ibrahim....We should try and sign Ribery with that amount...What do you think ????
It is far easier to accuse you of being madridista the way you want to prove that you are a Barcelona-fan.
I have only critized the transfer policy of our board, and the ungrateful way we have treated Eto'o and this deal just proves my point even more. I have said before that we get so little for our players and we pay overprices, and now we get reports that we are about to splash 55.5m + Eto'o for Zlatan. I am not surprised. You may celebrate this piece of business, but the whole football world is shocked.
I have no idea what you are talking about regarding Bojan? Are you accusing me of hating Catalan-Serbs?
i am extremely surprised they are spending that much money on a single player. first ibra is good but he is aging and that money can be spent in a much better fashion. pep called for a larger squad from the beginning and i feel like our squad is thinning out. our youth academy is the best in the world but you cant place them out there all of a sudden and hope for success. hopefully this really isnt the right amount and the cash portion is around 35mil euros
LOL, you know why you hate Ibra and have dodged the issue of weather you think bojan is no good. I leave it at that.
We got a huge deal for ronaldo and figo, did that make you happy? We do not get large fees because we do not buy players that we dont plan to use and sell them 2 years later as madrid did with robinho and Huntelaar. We bring players though our youth system and just add players who are in their prime to support them. When players are past their prime we sell them. We are not a selling club.
Murphydhino: "Woow that money is too much for Ibrahim....We should try and sign Ribery with that amount...What do you think ? " Ribery may have wanted to come to Barça but he got brainwashed by Zidane: Real Madrid's new "propaganda minister " !!
I think you feel the need to compensate for people who have called anti-Eto'o people for racists, so you accuse people ho don't like this deal of hating Bosnians, Serbs or some other nationality. How low can you sink, barca4life?
Neither Ronaldo nor Figo was done by this board, so your argument is completely irrelevant. Caceres was done by this board however, a player we bought who Pep didn't plan to use. Your "prime" talk is just rubbish.
Dani Alves's crosses + Ibra's head = goals.
Pay whatever. I would rather have seen Villa come for 50M, but whatever, Ibra is a rare talent and I think he'll adjust quickly to La Liga. He'll be big, strong, and, unlike Henry, he'll be playing in his preferred position. Pepe is toast. Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi can turn anyone into the best striker in the world.
As for Eto'o--I love you, man!! I'll be sporting your Inter jersey next year for sure!
Nice try slovan but you have not answered the question. Do you think bojan is good enough and why do you hate zlatan? Your failure to answer these two questions is answer enough.
Good lashing barca4life, I am with you on this one. This @slovan is a surreptitious madrista, check out his blogs on other posts. He says about the best possible lineups of madrid and how they could strategize and all. We never discuss those things here apart from ripping apart the imperialists :)
Oh, I didn't say that Laporta was a saint, fcbuy. Rare is the businessman who is. But that he is good for the club, and one of its best presidents, is pretty difficult to argue with.
--Ribery won't make the difference that Ibrahimovic has the potential to. He would also be more expensive because Inter doesn't want Eto'o, and he isn't at the point yet where he could displace Henry. Next year, definititely. But he'll be wearing white by then.
And let's not forget that Torres blossomed at Liverpool. He was in the Liga and was available, but went to the Prem for the bucks. Potentially (which is the only way we can think of it right now) Ibrahimovic should be better for us.
I really feel pissed about what happend here with the good name of the FCB.
There are two possibilities:
I) The newspapers from Madrid or Italy wrote crap and we are doing a good job.
II) The given numbers are something like Milans wish.
Barca is not for pressing money!!! I really can´t even think about the given numbers are for real.
Cancel the connection to Milan, bench Eto´o if he don´t want to perform and teach the international soccer buisness a lesson. Rotate Bojan and Keirrison and let us look what happen.
Yeah I have to say what B4L say about the club nurturing youth players while supplementing them with players at their prime seem to make sense. In fact that is the foundation of the club. The club was founded as a Catalunya outfit first and foremost (Wikipedia)
While most top clubs esp EPL clubs seems to forget their roots, I guess Barca will keep to its tradition, being the flagship of Catalunya.
B4L: I don't hate Zlatan, Bojan is a fine player and bleeds Barcelona, you are incredibly disrespectful and prejudiced towards other people, which is just sad to see.
Torres didn't want to play in any other La Liga team except Atletico.
This deal really smells of desperation after all the Perez signings. The price is simply outrageous. We are the Treble champions and beat them 2-6. Such desperation we show here should not be necessary.
Buj: Too bad that it just ain't true. We buy and sell all sorts of different players in all age categories. We buy what we think we need, like Keirrison, like Henrique, both far from their prime and get rid of the players we feel we don't need including Hleb, Eto'o, Caceres etc.
I don't like this Slovan kid, but honestly, Barca4Life, I'm disappointed in you.
You were the one talking yesterday about how you had to explain on forums to other people that the club is not racist bc they want to get rid of Eto'o. And then you brought up the Henry thing to them...you know what I'm talking about.
Now, today, you are implying that this guy is a racist and doesn't like these two guys because of the "...ic" at the end of their last name? That's low man, and hypocritical.
And to Slovan, honestly, you don't sound like a Barca fan at all.
I guess the "prime" wording was wrong but the fact remains that as much as possible FCB will ensure the cream of the team be made up of Catalan players and backed-up or led by the best (in their opinion) imported players. Of course some may not live up to expectations but the ones that do such as Stoickov, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Eto'o have proven that the policy is right if traditions were to live on.
Look at Arsenal, can they really be called an English team anymore other than being based in London?
That said, I don't like the unofficial stated amount being paid for Ibra.
Anon: I don't care what I sound like to you, what matters is that the club do good deals and perform on the pitch. Eto'o has shown his commitment for us on the pitch in the most successful era in our history, his performances, goals and titles speaks for itself, his 36 goals last season even though he knew they tried to get rid of him, couldn't have proven his doubters anymore wrong.
We get rid of the most hated player by all madridistas, who have always been at his best when facing Madrid. Some here don't know how to show gratitude and respect towards such a club legend, but just want to get the latest superstar.
I don't buy into the argument that we should trust Pep and his "feeling". His "feeling" isn't more important than our club, we know what Eto'o will give us. 30 goals a season and working his ass off for the team guaranteed. What Zlatan will give us remains to be seen, but blindly trusting Pep's decision when he wanted Adebayor to replace Eto'o last summer is not a good idea.
The way I, and alot of other Barcelona fans see it, we are taking a huge risk and getting ripped off at the same time.
Slovan can pretend all he wants, i met somebody just like him already. So against 1 player that i could not understand why. Until the dude broke down and said he hated a certain people. Those who have eyes can see.
Even when we speak of how guardiola wants a busbreaker and a tall strong centre forward that is good in the air to give us other options when we come up against teams like chelsea. Yet for some reason he does not want zlatan. he wants us to keep etoo who has 1 year left on his contract and offer him more money than messi. why so messi can feel disrepected?
All he talks about is how the board is panicking and what a bad deal it is for us. He is a madridista. Plain and simple
buj: This is not our tradition. The policy you talk about, with the best imported superstar complemented with our youth, is more similar to the tradition of Perez in his first period. Our tradition is simply to give our youth the chance to succeed, but always focusing on being the best team and buying players of different quality for positions that the manager sees fit, whether they are imported squad players which should be prepared to sit on the bench, important first team players, or superstars. It all depends on the needs of the team.
If all you can do is complain about how bad things are and how barcelona is panicking something is wrong with you. Ibra was our first choice since the start of the summer, how are we panicking by buying him? We wanted more height in our front line since last season, how are we panicking? Guardiola has said he doesnt want to deal with etoo anymore, how is that panicking. We have had clear ideas what we want since the start of the transfer period. It is now coming to fruition. To say we are panicking is just repeating Madridista propaganda. But then what do you expect from a madridista?
Imagine the man who has turned us from 3rd place and 2 trophyless years wants a new CF and all these so called barca supporters can say is "To hell with pep guardiola's feelings". The board should force guardiola to keep etoo right? You'd like that eh Slovan? You'd like it if pep was unhappy and perhaps resigned. Then maybe Madrid would have a better chance. What pep wants pep gets, he has earned the right to that on the basis of doing what has never been done in the history of spanish football before.
Just read what the whole football world thinks of this transfer deal. This piece of business is just incredible by our board, you can repeat that it is all jealousy, that it is all racism, or Madridista propaganda all you want, you are just sounding desperate. And your disrespectful ways towards other people won't win anyone over.
Well, first of all, Zlatan is tall and strong, but his heading is not very good. He has only scored a handful of goals with his head. And his attitude on the pitch is the complete opposite of Eto'os commitment for our team. Pep is a fantastic coach, but his transfer dealings should not by trusted blindly. Far from it. What do you think would have happened if Pep got his will last year and we replaced Eto'o with Adebayor?
Lol, i dont need to win anybody over. Zlatan was the biggest star in Serie A. We have gotten better by means of us having different options up front and we are less of a "team of midgets".
Most of the football world are scared of what Messi Ibra Henry will do to teams. Especially the madridistas and the BPL. Teams like chelsea can no long just bully our CF and cause him to go missing like they did in the semi final.
The BPL are mad because the best 5 players in the world all play outside of england Messi Ronaldo Kaka Zlatan and Ribery not to mention iniesta and xavi. And when ibra starts to bang in the goals the Cules will love him.
Only people that are mad and upset were etoo fans who are making a bigger scene than when ronaldinho left for some reason and madristas who now realize that 6-2 is a real possibility again
You will see at zlatan's presentation, the people who this team belong too, the people of Barcelona will welcome zlatan with open arms. It doesnt matter what you or I think, the Socios are the ones that will have thier say in the next election. If they like what has been done, they will give the person who laporta has chosen to support from the current board a mandate. If not they will vote heavily in favour of somebody else.
Well @sloven dont spout your FC Franco propoganda here, if pep had got Adebayor who knows he would have got more goals than inefficient etoo. There is no other team on the planet that can dish out so many passes to a forward and it happens only at Barca. We play a very offensive game and the entire team dishes out balls into the box and all that etoo has to do is tap in !!, and he wasn't very efficient in doing it. We need a player more than that and ibra is perfect.
Congratulations for signing Zlatan.
Barcasupporter from sweden here.
I think 50m is to much, its only as many have mentioned what Italian tabolids think. They have consequently spoken about way to high numbers during this affair.
I think that Eto more or less made his own destiny clear. As far as i have remember theres always some drama every year. Even before he came to Barcelona i had this feeling. He is greedy like most african players (no im not racist, its just a fact that when you come from really poor conditions money has a much higher personal value).
After everything said by him and his agent its beyond repair. He really had to go NOW!
I think theres alot more that Pep cant say about this. This is Barcelona and some things is better to keep internal. Besides they are professionals and wouldnt say something that would ruin a players reputatioan like that, certainly not if you expect to get any money when you sell him.
I think Eto started to act like he was bigger than the club in some ways, and no player will ever be bigger than Barca.
We will never forget what he did on the field, the effort and sweat. But with him missing sooo many chances ive always wondered what would happen if there was someone more efficient in the position.
Im not sure Zlatan kan score as much as Eto, but in the other hand Messi could probably equal for that when he can get some passes back from Zlatan.
After reading some here i see you all lack one thing.
You all act as if the current team was unbeatable, the best ever.
What you forget then is that were just a norwegian referee had a bad day and stole the victory from Chelsea. This year everyone will know how to counter our attacks.
Not many teams have the ability to do that but there is a few.
Barca needs to change to stay on top. The old team would probably not be enough to repeat the CL success. And face it, there are noone else expendable than Eto who also has this drama about his contract.
I think Pep knows exactly what hes doing. Zlatan is the exact type of player that Barca dont have today. With Zlatan that still is pretty quick for his size and technical skills enough to fit in to the Barcelona system we will have the ability to play more versatile.
Hes a striker, playmaker and target player in one.
And at last, Zlatan himself.
He leaves his favourite club for one thing. He wants to win! Its not that he goes to Barca because we pay the most money. Not long time ago he was offered 12m a year to renew his contract wich was refused.
He knows that Inter not got a team for winning the CL, and will not have for some years.
So i think hes really motivated to do something of his time in Barcelona. He is a player that put alot of presaure on himself and is willing to take a big responsibility on the field.
He could help take some pressure from Messi viceverca, and best of all, now he will have teammates thats on the same level. You can really see him suffer sometimes as they cant return a simple pass.
I am going to be called naive, paranoid et al.. but JT is yet to sign a contract renwal. He wants to meet Abrahamovic. Why? Isnt 130K/week a lot? He wants more. Otherwise he would be off to city.
Why is david Beckan slated in the US? he went there for the crazy money. What happened to Sheva from Milan hero to Chelsea reject. Micheal owen to Newcatle. what was behind the move? childhood dream? garet Barry to City ahead of liverpool? Well Its easier to point fingers.
team of midgets? lol.. dont lets go down that road. Add Ibra to the team and find the height average of the team. What does it come to? Thats plain funny. is Eto shorter than Xavi, Inies, Messi, the guys is 5'11". Dont make him seem like some 5'7" tall guy.
and this same "short guy", or "dwarf" or better still "midget" managed to score against EPL teams. Something CR9 with all the hype and fees is yet to do against a Liga side (who dont pack the bus)
I don't like to see the kind of pseudo-racist or at the very least streotyping comments made against Eto'o. If you want to call him greedy, just say so but please don't add something that's irrelevant just because he came from a poor background or worse, his continent.
It's sad to see that happening.
Why pseudoracist? Adebayoyr was atleast open with it when he said: "I like money so much since we never had any in my childhood". I think i also use the word greedy in my post. Nothing strange about that, its just the way it is with players from the third world. My wifes family from the third world is the same.
Even if you love Etoo, wich he deserves dont let that emotions blurr out the facts.
What have you got to say about the player (from 1st world countries) I mentioned? John Terry flirting with City, Micheal Owen to Newcastle, Sheva, Beck to America?
Are they from that part of the world too? every one loves money. Lets offer Messi, 90k/week at least we can calim we made him at the Le masia. And see his reatcion. Or isnt 90K/wee a lot of money to a 22 year old? I wouldnt call him greedy if he says no because he knows the market offers a lot more.
*we can claim*
