Shakhtar: Some ratings

by: John-Reid

Valdes - 7
Didn't have much to do, but did well when he was called on.

Alves - 5
Couldn't really get anything going. None of his crosses worked today and he had multiple misunderstandings with the others.

Pique - 7.5
Very solid in back and even contributed to the attack more than some of the forwards. Valdes would have been tested much more without him.

Puyol - 6
Did his job, but made more errors than expected from the Captain.

Abidal - 7
One of his more convincing games. Shakhtar never got the better of him and he even helped a little in the attack.

Xavi - 3
Completely anonymous. One of the Spaniard's worst games. He lost the ball more this game than any game I ever saw him play.

Toure - 5.5
Not very effective, but showed more of his versatility as he played everywhere from fullback to attacking mid.

Keita - 7
One of the only consistent players of the match. Continuously made solid passes.

Messi - 7.5
Completely absent at first, but got much better as the game progressed and had two good shots, a few good runs, and a great assist towards the end.

Ibrahimovic - 5.5
Showed glimpses of skill, but never really connected with the others. In particular, when he had Henry sprinting foward on the left in the second half.

Henry - 5
He started out better than Messi and Ibra, but quickly declined as by the end none of his passes worked. Tried a few long range shots, but relied more on luck than skill today.

Pedro - 7.5
Added life to the team and played overall well. And, of course, he got the game winning goal.

Bojan - 5
Looked promising, but added little.

Busquets - 5
Nothing noteworthy.

    I agree with everything.

Messi, Abidal and Pique had a great match. On the other hand, this was the first game I saw Xavi lose the ball.

  2. i guess these rating come from goal.com?

    if yes ... useless :-)

    ReplyDelete
  3. First, Ibra was the worst player on the pitch, by leaps and bounds.

Second, Xavi did not have his best day, but a 3, are you kidding?

Third, don't call Xavi a Spaniard, he is Catalan!

  4. i agree with utility73 about Xavi's rating.

  5. man u r totally crazy and don't know anything about football.
how da hell can xaxi have a 3.its insane.he should get at least a 5 or 5.5 .pique and ouyol should switch grades.and valdes should get a 6.abidal and keita were solid so ok 7.for toure ur right.the forwads and subs gd grades.but what piss me off is what xavi had.its completely insane.he cannot be man of the match everyday.he was yesterday average not a showing from the best mid in the world.and if its not an 8 or 9 it could be 5 or 6 not 3.

    ReplyDelete
  6. what the f..k Xavi 3, are you joking. Sorry but you don't know anything about football, he wasn't at his best but he did his job, you have to rate the perfomens without taking in accout who is the player, if thiago or dos santos played like xavi yesterday you would've rating them 7 or 8.

  7. Cant really agree with some of the ratings...
Valdes 6.5 solid, but had only one save to make
Alves 6 tried as allways, full of energy, but unlucky (?) with his shootings
Pique 6.5 solid overal, but made one error which could cost the trophy
Puyol 7 saved the team on two occasions, strong at the back , but below-par positionaly
Abidal 6.5 defensively ok, good at covering CBs, but weak at going forward
Toure 6.5 did his job in the middle of the pitch, good vision and passing, seemed to lack match fitness
Xavi 5.5 didnt had space, but showed effort and willingness
Keita 7 good showing, constantly running, taking on players and making smart/safe passes
Messi 7.5 very good game, out of players most wanted win, but lacked support.GREAT assist!
Henry 6 had few good shots, few bad passes, lots of effort.Lack match fitness
Ibrahimovic 6 need more time to adapt to Barca way on playing.Need to offer himself more. Lack match fitness.
Pedro 7.5 lively, tricky and very precise run behind the defence and clinical finish. Very promising
Bojan 5.5 promising, but needs more playing time to boost confidence.
Busquets N/A no time to make a grade

    worst anylysis ever

    fact about xavi

    124 correct passess (87%)

    best on the pitch

so dont talk shit just cuz he didnt get an assist or sth

    it was a tough game

    ReplyDelete
  9. how come ibra has higher rating than xavi? xavi played below his average just a little not that much. ibra may be the worst, not passed to messi and heny which had more open space and ruined the chances himself. it could be 2-0 in 90 minutes if he took these chances wisely.

the fact is the team played a bad game almost at the level they played and lost to numancia last year. and the pitch was the worst. it made the ball travel very slow.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would rather go with anony and rafouka ratings. spot on with Puyol better than Pique tho Pique was also good. As for Ibra anony I would give him a slightly less rating by 5 or 5.5. He needs to improve to gain a higher rating.

    ReplyDelete
  11. xavi (3) very funny, i think he ran the most with 15 km, he had the most passes completed with some 85 % accuracy, ....no one in the world would give 3 to anybody with such stats.

i think shakhtar's defense was good and didnt allowed to much space for thru passes.

And i though dani alvez, although wasnt outstand, he was atleas excellent, ..he was runing all up and down..and did supplied balls and the danger zone tooo...he deserved better too, so for me 6.5 for dani and 7.5 for xavi

    ReplyDelete
  12. Who says Pique was better than the captain in this game clearly did not see the match period

Xavi a 3 ahhauhahaa. Pep plz dont let this idiot do ratings again do not publish those ratings it is a disgrace.

    ReplyDelete
  13. No way xavi gets a 3. Bojan deserved a 6 because he was lively after coming on including 1 great run

    ReplyDelete
  14. i think someone who was watching the game should of rated the players... you mentioned 1 mistake from puyol when pique also made a mistake...... a player never gets a 3 rating unless they have been sent off without any contribution, xavi didn't play at his best but he was still there and wasn't so anonymous in the second half. ibra rating is correct but henry shouldn't be lower cause he was helping defend and was lively just lacked the final touch that was needed.

    ReplyDelete
  15. My man of the match was Puyol: saved our ass on more than one occasion! So a 6 is underrated, should have gotten at least a 7

    ReplyDelete
  16. Its a 3 for Xavi by his standard.

When you get 99 out of 100 marks everytime, a 90 mark is a failure.

However, who cares about it as long as we win? Its IMPOSSIBLE for everyone to play at their peak all the time. Lets be happy that even when he is not at his best, we still win.

A champion win with skills and luck.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Xavi made most passes in the game 113/131 with 87 % of them was good. he runned for 15.75 km and again that was the best record in the game. he did allot of dirty work, so if he didn't done an assist u can't give him a 3. it's insane.

  18. Hey Pep, can you make a poll for whether we should buy back Valiente and Crosas? I want to know what other Barca fan thinks. Personally, I think that Valiente is not needed as we already have many good and young CBs like Chygrynskiy, Pique, Muniesa and Fontas(maybe Henrique and Caceres, we'll see next year). As for Crosas, I think that he should be bought back for 2mil because its cheap and he is talented. I don't want Barca to lose another talent like Cesc, Merida and Arteta.

Why did we buy Keirrison anyway? Hulk would have been much better, he is young but yet he is already playing at a high level. Hulk can play all 3 positions up front and would have been a great signing.

And is Guddy should go, after seeing that Guddy weren't subed in for a more attacking metality later on in the game, this shows that Pep is not really trusting him and we lack attacking midfielders. The last transfers of this summer window should be Guddy out and Arteta in.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Buyout option for Valiente expired and the one of Crosas is only next season, so we could have the poll then, Barca nerd-fan.

    ReplyDelete
  20. xavi did the most passes of the game and he ran about 15.5 km... more than anyone else on the pitch

    ReplyDelete
  21. for me xavi played like 5-6. not bad and not good.

but there was one player on the pitch who get 0 from me. Ibra is bad. Selfish, arrogant, useless player. High overrated, too. I have ever said that Etoo is much better. Faster and a goal machine...but some Barc(not fans but idiots) think by looking youtube videos that ibra ist king...yes king of shit. He destroy the game, he destroy chances and he is not a player for a team...maybe tennis will be his sport...Because of him we will win nothing this year. We need a striker!!!!!!!!!!!!And not an arrogant diva like him.

For me Puyol was the best man of the match...clear good and he was the only one in form. Messi was to aggressive( red card)and has only one good moment.

WE NEED ONE PLAYER BACK: INIESTA. HE WAS THE MAN OF ALL LAST 10 games of the 09season

    ReplyDelete
  22. Xavi - 3 (LOL)

    Pique better than Puyol? (LOL)

    You gotta be kidding me...

What happened with The Points topic? I liked it, a lot more than these amateur valuations.

    ReplyDelete
  23. For me the worst player was Ibra..i can't understand why everybody gives him more than 5 points..he was so BAD!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ibra should've gotten a 4.i'm sorry i have to say this.Messi created tons of chances for him.I mean LOTS.Like so much but every time the chances comes then he will pass the ball to other players and in the end it didnt turn out so well.I mean i slept during the 2nd half.It was so boring but luckily i woke up again and found that Bojan substituted Zlatan.Zlatan doesnt have good passing vision by the way.john reid is not very fair in giving these ratings.Btw,i'm not critisizing anyone here except Zlatan so dont get offended.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anyway,If Xavi got a 3 then Zlatan must have gotten a 2.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Xavi was way under his usual level. That he ran the most doesn't want to say anything, in his position you always run the most. And that his percentage of passes in positive, doesn't want to say a lot either, the crucial thing are the decisive passes. 3 is harsh though, I would give him 5.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bojan didnt substitute zlatan

    ReplyDelete
  28. The pitch didnt help matters either.

    ReplyDelete
  29. the worst player was ibahimović..awful.........

  30. barca4life.Didnt i mentioned that i slept?

who wouldnt have slept like myself?

    I give Xavi a 6 and Ibra a 3. Puyol was better then a 6...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I didnt see messi create so many chances for zlatan in the first half. Not sure if i just forgot some of them. Ok Zlatan wasnt good I agree, but he was better in the 2nd half, I think he deserved a 5. Messi was much better as the game went on. No way xavi gets a 3. Bojan deserved a 6, he almost won the game in extra time, Puyol deserved an 8, he saved our asses at least 3 times with runs into the box to cover the shakhtar strikers that were going into our area.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah xavi was definitely better than ibra...i say more realistic is that ibra gets 4 and xavi 5 or 6...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok.I'm thinking straight now.Who am i to judge Ibra?ryte? But seriously he sucks.Eto'o was way better and a lot of fans by now would've notice that already.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Is Guardiola blind? or maybe stupid? or maybe one overrated coach who have the best players? Ibra was so bad that they have to take him out. I think they will be a lot of beef in the team when ibra plays so egoistic. Eto was a team player...but what was that yesterday. 2 players (Henry on the lift alone) and what happens? Ibra try to show shit. the best scene from Ibra was the back-heeled pass into the out.its funny how bad he is and what he tries to show. And guardiola is a hijo de puta because he throw Eto out( only of peronal problems with him) and buy this player who score in Italy where the defenders are like Maldini over 40 or Nesta like 36...and and and

    ReplyDelete
  36. how does ibra suck?? too much dick riders on this blog... i'm actually keeping names of those bashing zlatan for this 1 game cause they'll be shouting his name in joy all through the season and then that's when i'll tell you to piss off cause i hate fickle and weak hearted fans who only supports the team and players when they play well. you people deserve to be real madrid fans cause you are demanding and disrespectful like if you are a better player. like i said for other posts if you hate zlatan so much and willing to die for eto switch the bluered for blueblack.

    ReplyDelete
  37. C'mon Tengku and all of those naysayers, why so harsh on Ibra?

Eto'o, starts in La liga teams for years before coming to Barca. He plays for 5 seasons with us and scores in the CL twice, of course you'll see him as better.

Ibra on the other hand, has only played 2-3 matches in a La liga team, how can we expect he'll get on as usual. Either you guys don't know about football or any sport for that matter or you're just being unrealistic.

I'll reserve my judgement at least until after 5-6 full matches. If he still sucks by then then will I start demanding more. I don't want to lick my own spit over something that's has the potential to only get better. At least he won't get any worse than now, can he?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lol at the Eto'o haters/Zlatan lovers, who were criticizing Eto'o the whole time, but don't allow now any comment on Zlatan. Pathetic but funny :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Said that, of course Zlatan still deserves a lot of credit.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Marc4Barca, you were already a Zlatan lover before he joined us, so maybe you should have turned blueblack last season...

By the way: as a Barca fan it's normal to like Eto'o more than Zlatan because he has done so much more for our club. So far.

    ReplyDelete
  41. i'll keep your name Marc4Barca and when the time is right...........

anyway,i thought all of you were happy with eto-ibra swap plus 46 million friggin euros.?someone even blasted me for mentioning that the transfer was too expensive and a waste of money.i still remember.

he said "who cares how much barca spend, its not like its your money". well, now i bet he's one of the people critisizing Zlatan.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 1 game Marc4Barca??????? 3 games dude.3 bad ones.we even lost Gamper because of that guy!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Uhm zlatan played 45 mins in the gamper and we lost because of him? He set up the first goal in the spanish super cup 2nd leg in the camp nou but dont let reality stop your rant. LOL.

    Finally

Barca with etoo in the super cup

    3-0 loss to sevilla

Barca with zlatan in the super cup

    1-0 win over shakhtar

    more zlatan please

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love how you give zlatan 45 mins in a friendly and 70 mins in the super cup and 75 yesterday to prove himself. He is a waste because he didnt score in 3 essentially friendly games. Lets sell him now LOL

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well the Inter game is this evening so all the fans of Samuel Etoo FC can go over there. Fans of FC Barcelona the next game is on monday

  47. usually I don't comment on this blog, & u can c the cause in that topic

someone made an effort, posted an analysis for u to read & comment
then u c many offensive posts (funny - u r totally crazy and don't know anything about football- you don't know anything about football - worst anylysis ever) !!

i don't agree with some ratings such as xavi or puyols' ratings, but that by no means should make anyone post this type of comments

say whatever u want, but without offending
i really miss the readers 1 year ago

  48. Fans of Barça = Fans of All Barça Legends = Fans of Eto'o

As I'm concerned. Let's hope Zlatan one day will also fit th" "Barça legends" category.

Iniesta and Xavi are also fans of Samuel Eto'o FC, by the way...

    ReplyDelete
  49. NO player and i repeat NO player not messi not ronaldinho not xavi not iniesta not maradona not ronaldo not romario not rivaldo and certainly not samuel etoo is bigger than FC Barcelona. Those who support etoo can go watch inter. Fans of FC Barcelona will watch just that FC Barcelona.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Who talks about "bigger than the club"? Don't be such a drama queen. That's such a lousy argument.

If your definition of fan includes hating club legends, who have made this club becoming what it is now, than so be it. It's not in my definiton of being a fan.

Another Barcelona legend in the making Iniesta: "Eto'o deserves a statue." Your hate speech means nothing in the light of that quote. Who are you anyway...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Looking back, I guess I was a little harsh on Xavi. But this was still one of his off-days. I agree he doesn't deserve a 3. And maybe Puyol deserved better, but I stand by the rest of my ratings.

P.s. I didn't expect this to be posted! Glad it was though! Thanks Pep! :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Trez there is a difference... i never mentioned zlatan's name during the season cause he wasn't a barca player, i wasn't bashing eto until people started to bash zlatan for no reason which was when the season ended, i was not on the chatbox shouting eto is rubbish everytime he misses like most of his so called fans, although i choose zlatan over everyone i was willing to accept the villa move unlike many here who thinks eto can't be replaced and if some of you will take your head out your ass you would see that season hasn't started yet so give the guy some time to gel with the team, you gave henry a year right? then at least give zlatan till december. hating people for what they are and what they do isn't going to make your life any better so stop being a lil scared bitch and have faith in the players and i'm sad to see some people actually want barcelona to fail just to prove a point, i doubt it can get any worse than that.

groga it is true many of us zlatan fans criticize eto for some things that were not even that bad but it's not like we expect zlatan to be perfect and eto has been here for 5years, you can't compare 5 years of experience to 3 games. if you haven't realized i never brag about zlatan or even mention his name unless someone says something stupid or untrue about him. not necessarily all barca fans are fans of legends but i get where you are coming from. no one can take away what eto did so i will have his poster on my wall but even you have to admit that does not give anyone the reason to discriminate a player who has only played 3 games for his new club.

tengkuamir zlatan first two matches weren't bad and only sore losers and fools blame a lost on 1 player, wasn't messi also playing and alves as well and if that was eto you would of said the gamper isn't important.

@B4l: Inter's game is today but i will be backing my favorite player ronaldinho and his club ac milan but i also want eto to be at his best cause if he is not then this argument will go to another lvl cause they are zlatan fans other than myself here who take things further than me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. "you can't compare 5 years of experience to 3 games"

Exactly, so why are some people praising a player who has been here for three games and (as a consecuence) has done little for the club and bashing a player who has been here for five years and was a key player in the most succesful period of the club?

Note: I didn't say one bad thing about Zlatan so far this season.

    ReplyDelete
  54. praise?? what praise have you been reading? all i have heard so far for the first few matches is zlatan played well but needs more time, zlatan is crap, we want back eto, zlatan and messi will become a good combination etc... if you mean the comparisons between eto and zlatan then that is a common thing in football to compare two people of amazing class. the bashing of eto started with many complaining about him missing alot lately then it only got worse when people started to bash zlatan for just being linked with us.. you insult one's players then expect your own player to criticized.

here is the bet.. if eto performs better than zlatan this year then no one can argue who was better and visa versa. if eto does better then he would of proved to all the haters that it wasn't just iniesta and xavi making him who he is and if zlatan performs better then he just proves it was inter who was holding him back.

Deal? or do you want to keep going back and forth about this?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Don't get me involved in the Zlatan bashing. I give the new Barcelona players and respect the former players for their services to club.

And honestly: I guess the Eto'o bashing and Zlatan praising was first. Now, as a reaction the Eto'o fans bash Zlatan after a couple of games.

And if Iniesta and Xavo do worse, that means they were also dependent on Eto'o and not only the other way around...

    ReplyDelete
  56. I give the new Barcelona players *credit* and

    ReplyDelete
  57. well i don't see xavi and iniesta getting worse cause eto left.. xavi and iniesta do the same thing on spain as in barca so i am 100% sure both of them will either keep this lvl or only get better.

    ReplyDelete
