Guardiola insists a lot for Chygrynskiy,
but last year he also insisted a lot for Hleb.

Unidentified Barcelona board member

wow didn't see that coming

someone publicly criticising Guardiola...

But to be honest, i don't believe Chyg is that good, and for his price 25 you can get (a lot) better players

why do i have the feeling that it's tixiki who said that .

Txiki isn't part of the board, Hamad.

If we want World Class we need to pay for it. People say we paid over the top for Alves but he looks like a bargain now.

We should have paid the money for either Cesc or Masch. More often in life you get what you pay for.

I hope it's not the tip of the iceberg.

Well to be fair, to the anonymous board member, Hleb was a fall back option after the Arshavin saga didn't materialise.

Moreover, I personally think Hleb never got enough of a chance wearing the Barca shirt...That, of course, has again to do with Pep.

Can't fault him for his choices so far though so not sure anyone should be arguing with Pep

groga said...

It's clear there are some tensions. Guardiola apparently works with a very limited list of players he wants and those are just too expensive now.

But I think that's normal since the coach only looks at football issues while the board has to take the money into account too. And poor Txiki is squeezed between the two...

He also said Eto'o should leave last season, woops. This is only his 2nd year as a primetime coach. He should not let his ego get the best of him.

when was chygrunskiy world class?talk about terry?rio ferdinard, cannavaro, puyol thats world class .do you think that chygrynskiy guy deserves the transfer sum rio ferdinard got for moving to man utd?
i dont think so.maybe if he will come he will become world class but right now he only has expirience in a subpar league and uefa....you cant call him world class.
also all this money for a sub player? soz but no and i back the board on this one,no more than 15mil for a defender except if he is proven and the best in his position in the world(aka dani alves)

Hleb did well during pre-season until he got injured... May be had he not got injured so early he would have been a bargain

For someone that won what Pep has he at least deserves a chance. Players sometimes don't perform when they move to a new team. Just look at Henry, his first season with Barcelona was not exactly memorable. The Board member should give advice not criticisms from behind the scenes.

Look, the fact is Pep got some things wrong and some things right. I dont think anybody here can argue with a straight face that if etoo was not willing to sign a new contract he had to go and Guardiola was probably afraid that a repeat of the 2006-2007 season could happen if etoo stayed. I am not in favour of Chygrynskiy coming to us but the fact is the coach will work with what is given to him. He didnt want etoo to stay last season but he ended up staying and guardiola worked with what he had. If the league rolls around and guardiola doesnt have chygrynskiy he will work with muniesa fontas and anybody else that we can afford. Its not such a big deal.

Flippy said...

Yeah, but Hleb was ruined by an early injury and Pep has had 1 year with the squad so he has a clearer idea of what is needed.

Skanjos, so what would you rather have: The squad we have now or the squad we have now + Chygrynskiy, a player who Pep insists on having?

Anonymous said...

The Problem is pep.

when the coach just kill some players and doesnt give them a chance this is really bad.

Hleb didnt get any chance at barca and Guardiola policy is or you buy me the 3-4 players i am demanding or every player you will buy will be not even called and i will be playing with Youth players.

this way is really bad since the teams which know the barca situation will always ask the double price since they know the head of pep.and besides not every team want to sell his best players people was ungry about valencia not letting villa go away but how do you think barca will react if someboidy ask about messi.

and another thing .
when pep continue throwing players to bench the whole season if they dont perform the first 3-4 games then it will be more hard for every new player to adapt to barca sinc the stress will be higher on him.

i just guess that the story of before 3 years will be repeated this year with pep thinking he is God.

pep had the perfect season and we must thank himn for this but the guy just throw too many players away and this cost barca always millions : Hleb , Caceres , Henrique and this is only managed in 1 year.

and bytheway when a team like barca buy a player from arsenal like Hleb , the player except that barca will let him play 4-5 games before freezing him , but he didnt play 1 game full in his normal position.

He is not worth it but is good in the air and would help a ton against tall teams. Regarding transfers, Sejad Salihovic (Hoffenheim) is good player for the midfield. He can play as a Winger, CM play making role and even as a second Striker. He tracks back well and tackles well, has great passing and crossing and an amazing free kick. He can cover well for Iniesta and Xavi and would cost 5-10m. Misimovic is also good but wouldn't except a bench role and would be too expensive. The Bundesliga is very underrated and has some great players and we should be more interested in players from there.

yuti said...

I actually also prefer a smaller but better squad (with some youth players at the second line to help out).

This season's squad nevertheless seems really small, in every area. But who's to blame for that: the board because they cannot sign the players the coach wants or the coach because he's asking unrealistic (meaning too expensive) players?

Anonymous said...

Ruined by an injury? Come on. He wasn't out for long. This board member makes it clear that Hleb was a player Pep really wanted, and the fact is that Pep soon found out that he didn't like him, after we had already bought him.

Pep is a fantastic coach, but his transfers have not been anywhere near the same standard. Chygrynskyi for 25m euros? That's just crazy.

barca4life said...

What is it with the constant questioning of guariola? Guardiola didnt give caceres henrique and hleb a chance? Were you in training? Did you see what they did in training? Did you see how terrible caceres was when he got his chances? Hleb too? They got more than enough chances.

It is the board that threw away millions not guardiola. they refused to pay for garay and then rushed out and bought caceres. They then refused to pay for arshavin and rushed out and bought hleb. If they had spent a little extra in the first place we would have a much better squad. Now instead of just spending 25 mill for arshavin we spent 15 million on hleb and are probably going to have to pay another 20 million this year for another player of quality.

It makes no sense buying 2nd class players and i fully agree with pep. Whats the sense filling our squad with Hleb Caceres and Gudjohnsen who look terrible and make absolutely horrendous mistakes on the field? We should have gotten 1 quality player like cesc who can cover the 3 midfield postiions last summer with the 40 mill we threw away of hleb caceres and henrique. That way the youngsters get their chance and the first team has depth despite not having an exceptionally large squad.

Pep won the tripple.... so .....

ssssssssssssst!

Always bashing on players and staf thats the only thing I read here.
And you call yourself fans of Barça...

PPleas chose an other team the TRIPLE they won what do you more want...!!!

Unknown said...

Broadcasting to the world that you want that player and that player only is not a good way to get a bargain or at least a realistic price, no?

I trust Pep wholeheartedly when he says he wants any player but he needs to do so surreptitiously as any words he says to the board will surely get reported to the media by someone. It's like this board doesn't know how to keep things under wraps and yet whines when the price is unreasonable.

I don't see Arsenal having to pay more than their first bid when Wenger says he want RV Persie or Arsh coz Arsenal doesn't tell the world it's that player or nothing, do they?

Anonymous said...

There are no reasons to bash people that think with their brain instead of their emotions. We all want the best for Barcelona. That is why many react on actions by Barcelona staff that is bad for the club.

Anonymous said...

Weird that he didnt want to use him then. Hleb is already improving him self

Andréssibraviqué said...

Broadcasting is not done by the board, it's the stupid media! Come on! Do you guys really think the board or the coach even considered the options of Miranda or Kompany or Evans. Kompany is okay, there's a possibility. But what about the rest!? I don't think the board considered them but the sport was all over spreading the news that we are going to bid for one of them and the whole world starts believing that shit. now if the board does really consider then it's like this is the final day, tomorrow is the final day... Way too immature on our media's part. They actually already got the bashing by Pep for behaving so after our match against Bayern at Camp Nou. They were like we already signed Ribery!!! That directly got madrid into the scene because they obviously won't let a player whom they could reach through Zidane go to Barca so easily

Anonymous said...

Sport and El Mundo Deportivo are daily newspapers, they have to sell, and they have to fill their paper with alot of barca stuff every single day. So they sometimes exaggerate to sell papers, but in general they have great contacts inside the club and they are in general credible.

Andréssibraviqué said...

Even recently with case involving Fab... EMD has published that we have a pre-agreement signed by Wenger to get Fab next year for 35m or some thing. That news got totally blowed up, reached Wenger & he was like abusing and cursing our board for behaving very immaturely in transfer window. I mean he should have considered the fact that it's just a media rumor and the board would have nothing to do with it. But instead he took it very seriously. Now even in the case of transfer prices, they'd definitely take these rumors seriously and start demanding above-the-sky prices. REMEMBER Pep never came out and said he wants only these set of players and would consider none else, in that case he would have discarded Maxwell already because he only wanted Filipe Luis in the first place. Come on guys!!! He's a legend of a player, been captain of this BIG club called barca and he would obviously know how it works in transfer window. He has enough knowledge relating these matters to behave so immaturely as adamantly demanding for only the star or CRACK players. It's all media bull-shit

skanjos said...

flippy i would take the current squad +25mil for transfers rather the current squad +crygrynskiy.the main cause is fontas/muniesa i think they are solid and signing another cb(for sub) would block their development alot.

dont get me wrong those 25mil should be invested in other players not stay in the bank....right now i think we need a right back and a winger.

my choices would be rafinha and suarez.not more than 30-40 mil and we get a great sub rb(3rd best in the brazilian team after dani and maicon)and suarez who is starting to feel worldclass(outstanding scoring even for the dutch league)

also i wouldnt mind if instead of rafinha we got cesar .

Andréssibraviqué said...

@anony
I agree they some inside-knowledge and are credible to some extent. But all I'm asking is for them to behave a bit decently and not to spoil the club image. For example even if Txiki held a meeting David Villa secretly without the permission of valencia, why not keep it secret!? Why make it public!? They not only spoiled our chances of signing him(I'm happy for that because I always wanted Ibra i nteh first place :) but they even spoiled our relations with Valencia. We are not able to negotiate with them for Juan Mata a quality player the likes of whom we so desperately want now :( Valencia it seems are now ready to make deal with Athletico Madrid for Silva and are fucking happy having resisted the player from joining our club or Madrid(even with whom they don't have any good relationships)
These things matter a LOT & the media need to behave decently to not spoil the reputation of one of THE best clubs in the world... It's their fucking responsibility for God's sakes

Hleb was in regular rotation. A vicious tackle injured his ankle, and he wasn't the same after that. If you'll recall, he returned to his rotation spot after the injury, and continued to sporadically impress. The less time he got, the more he pressed when he came in, and voila, a plane ticket to Stuttgart.

What if Guardiola had been as patient with Hleb as he is with Krkic? Good question.

Not sure who the board member is who made the quote, but it's bullshit, in my estimation. A club official, in effect, ridicules the coach who, in his first season, pulled off a staggering accomplishment. A Rosell supporter? You never know.

I say that until the results prove Guardiola wrong, let's give him some leeway. We're going for 6 cups this season, with a leg up on one (conclusion Sunday), with the competition for the other to follow within the same week.

As far as Guardiola's transfer grades: Alves (A), Keita (B), Henrique (Incomplete), Keirrison (Incomplete), Hleb (F), Caceres (D), Ibrahimovic (Incomplete), Maxwell (Incomplete, but pending B). Not bad.

Two things are constant in Spanish football: A hyperactive press, and exceedingly political boardrooms. Neither one will change anytime soon.

barca4life said...

Hleb is on his way to 30 bojan is on his way to 20 why should we be patient with hleb? He has very little upside.

Pep is fantastic and there is no doubt abouth that. He promted Barca B, and with the first team made a tripple. Whatever he played, he won, and thats and of story.

I saw some games of Chirginsky and it's clear to me why he wants him. He's strong, powerfull in jump where we always have some problems, and he has nice pass and vision. For me Pep is right abouth him, and board should bring him here, if it's possible, even if must pay 30 million. Board must lisning Pep's ideas, he proved he's selfs a lot in very short time.

Anonymous said...

The problem with Chyhrynskiy in my opinion is he lacks pace & the idea of pairing Pique and Chyggy just scares the hell out of me... Both are slow, both go forward more than occasionally and if suppose there's a counter-attack their lack of pace makes them vulnerable. But having said that, I totally trust Pep & would welcome the move :)

Kxevin said...

My view of Hleb was that he met a short-term need of midfield depth. Had he panned out, it would have bought us a couple of seasons to let the kids mature. I shudder to think of what might happen if Xavi goes down with an injury.

Gelson said...

well, this board was always a little idiotic. saying things like that in public right before renewing guardiola's contract. atleast the board is changing next year. i think guardiola should control transfers like benitez or ferguson. hleb never did get enough play time. and we're barcelona. we are not poor like valencia. we can afford if we buy one or two flops.

my advice to guardiola-just bear with the board for this season and then rossel hopefully will become chairman, and i heard he is more of the real type of business, albeit with more negotiation skills.

I don't like this quote at all. So Hleb didn't turn out well, big deal. Blame Hleb, not Pep. Hleb didn't earn his place on the team, never got on board mentally, and never played the way that his talent suggested he would. As for Hleb, he deserved criticism when it looked like he could hurt the team. BUT WE WON EVERYTHING. If Hleb had blown some open shot in the Champions League final, fine, make him a villain. But he's gone. He and Barca can both move on from a relationship that might have worked out better than it did. Pep can't predict the future. He can only win titles. And this quote could apply to anyone: "Pep insists a lot for Ibra, but he also insisted a lot for Hleb." Come on...

VISCA PEP

This is why you don't get caught up on any one player. You never know how a player will adapt and gel with the team.

I'd rather get another young promising defender for 12-14 million than Chygrynskiy for 25 million.

Gelson said...

seriously is this the respect the board shows to the man who orchestrated barcelona's greatest season ever? and saved their stinking skin??? the least they could do is approve the transfers to txixi can go ahead with the deal. the man i feel this entire sham is hitting the most is txixi.

guardiola-buy me chyg and masch
txixi-ok
board-no use poulsen and cantera
txixi-ok
guardiola-no i need "cracks"
txixi-but...
board-manage with average players!
txixi-but...
guardiola-i dont have enough players!
txixi-but...
board-your not getting any players
