Juventus interested in Xavi for next season

Italian sports site Sportmediaset claims that Juventus is interested in Barcelona midfielder and Spanish international Xavi (28). Together with Werder Bremen's Diego, the Catalan should become the key player of Juventus' midfield next season.

Jonathan Koenig, one of the representatives of Xavi, would recently have met with Barcelona officials to talk about a contract renewal but an agreement couldn't reached (read more here).

Xavi, whose contract expires in the summer of 2010, would be asking a serious increase of his 3,5 million euro year salary, which Barcelona president Joan Laporta isn't willing to give him. The player would now consider using article 17 of the FIFA Transfer Regulations, which permits players to terminate their contracts after a 'protected period'.

muahaha, of course BS.

He said often enough that he won't change clubs unless Barça doesn't want him anymore.

ok sure juve.. you can have him...if you have 50 million euro lying around....but seriously....WHY DONT WE GIVE HIM ALL THE MONEY HE WANTS!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont get it.... he has been one of the top 5 players on the barca team for over ten years!!!!!! he just got voted best player of a MAJOR INTL TOURNAMENT..... HE IS HOMEGROWN..!! HE IS A CAPTAIN....HE HAS BEEN UNDERPAID EVERY YEAR SINCE HE GOT HERE. ok laporta lets play a game.... who would you take right now if you had to decide between.. xavi and henry ?????....easily xavi.... xavi and eto'o..... close but maybe eto'o edges him because 25+ goal per season strikers are hard to find but its reeeeeeeeaaaaly close.... xavi and messi...... messi..he's the future... xavi and puyol.....xavi....he has more left... if you continue with the exercise it becomes clear that he is probably about 3rd or fourth on the list behind maybe messi eto'o and maybe iniesta....but its clear he is one of your best players....PAY HIM WHAT HE DESERVES........ I AM SURE IF THEY OFFERED 5 MILLION EURO HE WOULD TAKE IT.. COME ON!!! NO ONE IN THE DRESSING ROOM WOULD BE JEALOUS OF HIM MAKING MONEY.... THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT HE REPRESENTS TO THE CLUB THE FANS THE CITY OUR YOUTH PROGRAM...COME ON!!! DONT BLOW THIS LAPORTA!!!! ..

ok I know he is unlikely to leave.. and i dont put much weight on the juve story but I am so mad.. that we are negotiating with xavi... I am sure what he asked for is reasonable because he is a reasonable guy.. ( who still lives with his parents for christs sake) he has give everything to this club... just give him whatever he wants.. pleassse

This is probably just Italian reporters having nothing to write about, ending up pulling transfer rumors out of their asses.

Dream on Juve

Sorry, but it just blows me away that the Xavi deal hasn't already been done. I know that guys such as Messi are the glamour players, but Xavi is more critical than Messi to the side's success.

We opened the checkbook for Messi. There shouldn't be a question of doing so for Xavi, who wants to earn as much as the likes of Puyol? No brainer.

You have my vote Kxevin...I think they more take his commitment for granted unlike any other player, they may have good reasons not to feel under pressure to be so generous, yet, thats a dangerous or at least not a fair behavior.
More reasonable possibility is the age, its easier to engineer a contract for a barely 22 years old guy I think...

I think the Xavi contract renewal should be a top priority case.
He is worth way more for Barca then anyone else could be that Barca could sign from another team, not only from an European team, but from every team around the entire planet. Therefore i think investing in his contract is, besides the mental and economical benefits it will give, for the team a very important and urgent thing to do.
I prefer Xavi over Benzema anyday to give an example of where the money Barca could save by not renewing Xavi's contract could go.

Everyone remember this is from an Italian newspaper, just a bunch of journals talking to stir things up.

They're working on it, I shouldn't worry too much. It's a busy period with all the midweek-game and such a contract isn't something you write overnight.

Xavi is too good to get rid of!

If Juventus signed Xavi we would have one of the best midfielders in Europe.

However, Xavi, for me, is a symbol of Barcelona and should spend his whole career at the club. He is to Barca what Del Piero, Buffon, Nedved and Chiellini are for Juve.

3.5 million? I think that is the same salary as Tiago.

FORZA JUVE

I would suggest you try to buy Keita... ;)
