Silva is again the top target

Both main Catalan sport papers claim today that Barcelona is still working hard on the transfer Valencia left winger and Spanish international David Silva (22).

Catalan sport paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that, while Valencia has been dropping the asking price from 35 to 25 million euro°, Barcelona would have made a new bid of 18 plus 4 million euro°.

Because of the positive draw for the Champions League qualifying round, Barcelona isn't really in a hurry to close a deal but the transfer of a player who can act as left wing attacker is now nevertheless the priority of the club for the rest of this transfer window.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that next week will be decisive. Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola and Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain are both insisting on the transfer of Silva but if Valencia doesn't accept the new offer the transfer won't go through.

Barcelona would be ready to satisfy the 25 million euro° asking price of Valencia by offering 22 plus 3 million euro°. If Valencia would reject this last offer then Barcelona is considering not to buy a new left wing attacker this summer as there are few other first class players available on the market.

If a deal can be closed with Valencia, Silva is expected to be a Barcelona player soon since Barcelona would already have reached a pre-agreement with the player on a four-year contract a few days before the start of the European championships (read more here).

Asked about the rumours linking David Silva and David Villa with a summer exit, new Valencia president Vicente Soriano meanwhile repeated yesterday to journalists that both players are not for sale: "I don't think we have to repeat this every day. We already said that we don't want Silva and Villa to leave the club. We want them to stay with us and we're negotiating to make that happen."

for 18 mil he could turn out to be the best signing of the summer, even 22 would be good business. as the article says there are no other options out there, barca obviously aren't interested in arsharvin, so it silva or henry/hleb/iniesta for the LFW, none of which are suited there. in that role silva could suprise afew of his critics.

This is getting boring. Silva is not worth any more than 10m considering his noticeable flaws. Barca should just get Aguero. Yes his bouyout is 55m, but, I think everyones agrees that the man is only going to get better!!

The problem is that Spain does the same thing as England, Spanish clubs value Spanish players higher than their actual market price.

I would pay 20mil EUR for Silva and get it done. I think they would accept it... He's a good player, way better than Arshavin. And younger!

Again,Silva is good but he does not deserve this much money. There were talks about Thiago Neves coming to Barcelona.Watch this latest goal for the guy who is with the brazil olympic team.(he is the brazilian league's best player)
I think the guy is being sold since Fluminense have made a new big signing at Neves position.
Know anything Pep or anyone ?

He has a bunch of similar goals

22+3 for Silva would be a fantastic deal in my opinion.

Yeah I have seen Neves play a few times and he looks like a very good player he would also be a lot cheaper than Silva. I dont think we will buy him though because he is yet to be tested in Europe. It is one thing to play well consistently in Brazil but its another to do the same in Europe. We need somebody proven at the highest level!

The nicest option would be to get both and have Neves as a backup for Silva, but that is being greedy i think :)

i agree too..its better to invest in silva. arshavin good player no doubt..but he plays in russian league..havent experience that sort of challenge in high level..and played two good matches at euro 2008.

silva is younger and faster..so I would go for him...

Same people who caused us headache critisizing Hleb signing are doing the same now regarding silva...
Later I noticed they became impressed with him (as fast as they judged him badly)...
Now about silva...mark my words, if barca sign him, it will turn to be the signing of the season for barcelona, and even on the long term...
Time will tell..

I agree with the comment above....how many ppl were quick to diss Hleb and then as soon as he had one good pre-season game he was amazing all of a sudden. Hleb is a very good player to have on our squad, he provides depth and versatility and he is a very CLEVER purchase. He is not the biggest name or the most obvious target, but Pep was smart enough to realise what he brings to the side and I think he is a great buy.

Silva would be even better....he is young, fast and works hard for the team. He may not have scored left, right and centre for Valencia but he will have much more freedom playing for us and a lot more opportunities to score. I think this should be the last big signing for the season, maybe a replacement for Oleguer just to provide more depth at RB.

This team is shaping up very well. If all goes well it could even be better than the team that brought us the double under Frank. All we need now is a WORLD CLASS keeper ala Casillas/Buffon and we will be unstoppable!

Considering that so many people remain 'anonymous' I don't know how you can tell whether people has changed their mind's about Hleb

I stand by what I said about Hleb and Silva, neither one could add anything significant to the contribute to the success of the team. Simply put: Barca can do better!!

to Anin above "I stand by what I said about Hleb and Silva" show that I know what i am talking about...i dont know the names for sure but I know "THAT" mentality;)
pst..i am so confident in what i say that i mark my name on it:)

Silva is the ideal person for the left wing position if alot of you guys out there study football.Right now on the market tere aren't much natural left wingers and Silva the best available.Look at it this way, most of you that watch the pre-seasons games look at how much fredoom Messi had in those games, all the attack didn't go through him which gave him alot of room to show his abilities on and off the ball and with Silva arriving it would give Pep alot of variation in his squad allowing to switch between a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 and use diferent players. The signing of Silva would be a huge success to Barcelona in my opinion, so Barcelona make it happen.Que mes un club.
