Gudjohnsen wants to stay

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (29), whose contract expires in 2010, doesn't want to leave Barcelona this summer.

Gudjohnsen is delighted with the arrival of new manager Josep Guardiola and thinks that he can contribute to the new project. The player would have informed his entourage that he doesn't have any plans to move and that he
wants to win a major trophy with Barcelona.

Besides the sporting reasons, Gudjohnsen and his family feel very comfortable living in Barcelona. One of Gudjohnsen's sons plays at the Barcelona youth acadmey.

Barcelona board member Rafael Yuste nevertheless made clear in an interiew with Catalan radio station RAC 1 that Barcelona still wants to sell the player during this transfer window and hopes to be able to announce something in the comming days: "We're not hurrying things but sports director Txiki Begiristain and football director Raul Sanllehí are looking at the issue with determination and our intention is to find a new club for Gudjohnsen where he can be happy again."

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that Barcelona hasn't yet received an offer for Gudjohnsen. Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona has been contacting several agents around Europe but that wouldn't have led to any concrete result. Barcelona would even be willing to consider a loan deal in which Barcelona would pay a part of the player's salary.

Sport nevertheless claims that Marseille could be interested in the striker if Djibril Cissé would leave the French club. Marseille manager Eric Gerets will only accept an exit of Cissé if the club would replace him wth a first-class player, with Gudjohnsen being on top of the list.

i like you, Eidur, but you've been a remora for at least a full season now, and it's time to start swimming on your own. we never should have signed him to such a long contract.

Guddy's starting to become like that itch that you can't get rid of. It's become apparent that he can't take a "hint" and will only leave the club if he's led out kicking and screaming. I admire the patience that Barcelona are exhibiting towards him, because if it were me I would have given him away for free a long time ago.

christ you lot love to slag off the players don't you? guddy may not have achieved what he was capable of at barca but he gave it his all each time he played. if he wants to play for the club then he should as we need players that will give it their all more than we need money, he has never been a disruptive influence despite his lack of games. if he goes i wish him luck, if he stays i wish him more luck!

I agree with the anonymous comment above. I'm slightly confused about the Barca strikers.

I don't know if Eto'o or Gudjohnsen should be sold. I like them both. But I really think Barca should get Pavluchenko. He is good in the air, he is willing to run, he's got skills and he's got a brilliant shooting technique.

But if Barca will have too much strikers. Also I think Barca shoul only buy Arshavin for only around 16 million euro. Read my comment below and see the formation that I want Barca to Play next season...

4-3-3

Centre Striker: Pavluchenko
Left Wing Attacker: Silva
Right wing Attacker: Messi

Centre Defensive midfield: Yaya Toure
Left Midfield: Hleb
Right Midfield: Xavi
Iniesta coud be played instead of Hleb as Iniesta warks better with Silva, but Hleb is better at getting past players.

Centre Defence: Puyol and Caceres
Left defender: Abidal
Right defender: Alves

It isn't a question of slagging off players, it's a question of getting players on the pitch who can win matches for the side. That isn't Gudjohnsen, whose skill set just isn't cut out for La Liga. He should move on, he's been told he could move on, I'm not sure what the problem is. I can't see him displacing anyone in the side. He isn't a midfielder, isn't a striker. He's just sort of there.

A player can give his all and still not be good enough. No shame in that.
