Puyol agent casting doubts on renewal

Asked about the contract renewal of Barcelona central defender and Spanish international Carles Puyol (31) (read more here), the player's agent Ramon Sostres has said in an interview with Italian football site Calcio Mercato that the player is in doubt about his future:

"At this stage, Puyol's renewal talks have stopped. He has received a very good offer but the player now first wants to see how things go with the squad. Barcelona has now signed Chygrynskiy for the positions of centre-back, where they already had Piqué and Márquez.

We saw what happened last season when Puyol played on the right, on the left and in the centre. In the semi-final of the Champions League against Chelsea he played very little. I think he must be the only captain that is not used in such an important game. The player's doubts are exclusively related to the sporting side, the financial aspect is not an issue here.

Now the player has to think long and hard about his future and decide whether that future will be with Barcelona or with another team. We will see about that later. Milan? The club seems to have some trouble at this moment. I was surprised by the transfer of Kaká. But they stay one of the most important clubs and one of those that Puyol likes. Only time will tell, it's still too early to comment on these transfer rumours.

The renewal offer is on the table but at this moment there are no further talks. We will see what will happen during the season although we are not expecting him to leave at this point because he is very attached to Barcelona. Is there a new meeting planned? I'll meet Txiki soon to talk about Iniesta and it's possible we also talk about Puyol.

But I repeat that it's not a financial problem but exclusively a football issue. The relationship with Guardiola is fine. Pep likes the player a lot, which is normal because I think it's one of the few footballers in the world who can play at all defensive positions.

But in the centre the coach wants players who are good with the ball and so it is possible that he prefers Márquez, Chygrynskiy or Piqué. The coach nevertheless knows he can count on a player who is always available for whatever needs. He is 31 years old and at that age, no team can give him any assurances. We will see what happens, time can change many things."

why can't agents shut the fuck up and stay out of the public light. i really wish that fifa or uefa would absolve agent fees then these wankers wouldn't get so involved. this is between the captain and the coach, if it was ever going to be true that a certain player makes a club then puyol is the closest to that, this shit is just to sell his own name and newspapers

And Puyol didn't started in the first Chelsea match to prevent this.

i think it's good that puyol's agent is putting pressure on barca. obviously puyol is not gonna say the things his agent says, but there's always truth in what's said by an agent. we kno puyol's presence and influence in beyond simple footballing reasons, and we all like and expect him to stay.

lol puyol is getting older. No way he will get more playing time than ever before. He will be 32 next year.No way pep or any other coach will prefer him over chygsy or pique.if he can't accept it he should try to engineer is move to players dearest oldhome ac milan :)

Off topic...Chelsea is Banned...their ban is, that they are not allowed to buy any players in the next 2 transfer (registration) windows...on National or International level...the same should get Arsenal...for stealing out youth players

It is on FIFA site...

Blah, blah, blah, blah. Puyol will renew, his agent will talk shit and it will all be fine. He deserves to retire with the club and barring anything unforeseen, he will.

More than any other player that we have on the roster right now, Puyol is Barca.

His playing time will certainly diminish, but that's to be expected. That's life.

Puyol is Barca...no way he's going to just leave the club he has presented his whole career.Heck,Sylvinho played great last season although he was already 35...age doesn't matter when you've got quality

He wants to play, it's not like the other agents who come out asking for more money.

And Guardiola "was" also Barça when he was a player (even more than Puyol now) and still he left, so I wouldn't put my money on him staying... Well, I would a little, but definitely not everything.

groga: You are busted! You said that you wouldn't put your money on him staying, but then said that you would put a little money on it!

I will blow something up if Puyol leaves.

I will not stand this situation if Puyol ends us leaving. We all know how important he is to Barca. Puyol is Barca.

Pep, don't even think about letting Puyol go. I don't care whether you have a feeling, I as a fan know that that would be a mistake. I know I'm not a coach, but Puyol has an effect in the team that can't be replaced.

the eleventh commandment for puyol - thou shalt not leave the camp nou.

and i dont think he will, TBH.

Puyol will not leave Barca, and besides, he is way to young to be a defender in Milan....

@Anony above - LMAO, brilliant. Too young to play for Milan. :P

Interesting, I always believed that signing Chigrynskiy would complacte things at the CB position.

He will play, he will rotate with Chygrynskiy and Pique. Marquez should be the one worrying.

pique and chygrynskiy will be pep's first choice, second stringers are muniesa ,marquez and fontas....puyol will be used anywhere needed at the defense,,,,so im guessin he'll have enuff playin time....anyway nth changes even if he leaves, barca can always adapt to any situation.....if puyol wasnt there pep mite even have a better idea( last season's CL Final)so nth to worry abt

Puyol will play as backup for Alves in the RB position (when needed).

I love Puyol to death, he is the best captain and defender in the world. But if he wants to bitch like this, then I am more than willing to see Xavi as captain and Chyhggy, Pique, Marquez, Milito playing in center.
