Mourinho almost Barcelona coach last year

Speaking to Spanish radio station RNE, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that current Inter Milan manager José Mourinho was close to succeeding Frank Rijkaard as Barcelona coach last year:

"I talked with him when he was here the other day for the game against Sporting and I told him that this is his home. I also asked him not to take too many notes so we would still have a chance to beat Inter...

I have to say I like Mourinho a lot. It is a great coach, someone who has a lot of qualities, a man of the club, where we have great memories of him and who at some point was a possible manager. He would have been our coach if we wouldn't have thought that Guardiola was the best option."

Lies a defensive minded coach a coach of barca.....he is gud but 2 defensive & chelsea played defensive when he was there but inter seem to be a bit more attacking but not much more....match will be a one made in heaven

I don't think of him as a defensive coach, but a tactician, and in the EPL defense comes first (or you play like Arsenal and loose).
I mean, he was an assistant coach here who one trophies, he knows the place, you think he would try to change our football philosophy? no way... the man adapts to the team and competitions he is in.

*won not one... man I'm tired

He had said before that he would be able to adapt to Barcelona's football style. It sure would be an interesting experiment...

He would make us champions in La Liga too, he knows how to win leagues.

hes a great manager, but not nearly as good a motivator as pep. pep can make players walk to hell. thats what makes him special. mourinho would not have been bad, but i dont think we would have won the treble with him

Last year there was an article in Sport or MD about how could Barca look like if Mourinho would be our coach. It wouldn't be a defensive team. It was called the 'Barca de Mou' or something similar.

Lol look at him giving Laporta a piece of his mind he overlooked Mourinho for Guardiola.

he wouldve probably bought drogba and surely we wouldnt have won the treble! and mourinho will probably leave barca if he cant get his own way..which will leave us with a hole in the pocket

I just couldn't see him operating in the Spanish club structure. I could not see him working with a Txiki, Valdano, Mijatovic. He wants control and that's why he left Chelsea.

Abramovich wasn't giving him that control and the business relationship fell apart. At inter, Mourinho can go straight to Moratti and say "get me this, get me that."

He has built a really good team at Inter this summer. They will be tough to beat in the Champions. Juve is their only competition in Italy.

I think Pep is the man for Barca...it's not bad to win a treble in your first year in Barca

Inter will be hard to beat, but I remain confident and hope Barça will show them who are the champions.

Ibra vs Eto'o
Maicon vs Dani Alves
Cesar vs Valdes
Maxwell vs Santon
Lucio vs Puyol

HOT HOT HOT
