Has we backed off saying Alves's transfer fee is too much, we woudn't have won the treble IMO. If Pep is so confident, just give it a shot. I agree 25m is too much for an unproven CB, but take a gamble. Even Ferdinand never played in Europe when ManUtd splashed similar cash for him & look what he turned out to be
Do we see chygrynsky transfer as a clash of egos between pep and the board? You see in the quote of the day there was a comment indicating something like that.
I don't agree to the 25mil price but we all know the ball is in Pep's court as his new contract states. He wants more control over transfers and the way the academy and players are trained. Shaktar knows this so they know if Pep wants Chygry, then the board has to agree to any price asked. Hope he's worth that amount.
I think I am starting to understand understand Guardiola... He is trying to buy great talents and then groom them to be the best. In his first year he tried with caceres. no chygryinskiy. i think it will work better with chygrinskiy because at shakthar they are similar to barcelona in the way they play.
if you can justify 15 for hleb and 15 for caceres then why not. What's the sense in getting 2 shitty players when we could get one player that the coach sees as helping the team. I understand the boards policy of not being taken for hostage in the transfers, but I guess its hard when everyone knows you have the money.
that maybe true for Caceres, but 15m for Hleb after a good season, and with the cheap Arsenal is a good deal. why did he play that bad is something else. but yeah, Caceres for 15m = Albiol !!
This defeder is way to expensive. I've seen him play in the game vs Timisoara, in the game where they failled to quallify for champions league. He's tall but slow, he's clumsy with the ball at his feet. In the last 5 years, apart from Arshavin, there's no player that came form the East Europe and turned out worthing his money. All were to expensive and bad investments.

25 million is a not bad deal
Couldnt agree with you more Mike , 25 is a bit too much for a defender unproven in a big league (although he was very good in europe last year)
18 mill or maybe even 20 would be a good deal for us. !
he is good but not worth 25 million euros
15m max. Madrid bought Albiol from Valencia for 15m, and he is same age, Spain international and proven in La Liga.
okay food for thought guys.

15 max.
muniesa and fontas cost nothing and are or will be even better just promote a youngster and play him alongside Pique or Puyol against lower teams
Just a note, Ferdinand was in the Leeds team that went to semi final of champion league.
However, while i tihnk 25m is quite a huge amount for him, i say lets trust pep for what he did last season.
Definitely NO!

Nobody can justify 16.5m for Caceres and 15m for Hleb. It was a disaster.

Yes, Vidic for 7m and Skrtel for 6m, both came from the Russian league and turned out really, really bad. Bad investments, don't you agree, anony?
