Guardiola rejects to sign Rafinha and Mongongu

Catalan sports paper El 9 Esportiu claims that Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has rejected the transfers of AS Monaco central defender and Congo international Cédric Mongongu (20 - picture) and Schalke 04 right back defender Rafinha (23).

Both players reportedly had been put forward by the club earlier this week as alternatives for the transfer of Shakhtar centre-back Chygrynskiy. After the rejection by Guardiola, Barcelona would have decided to make a new attempt for the Ukrainian defender.

Catalan sports paper
Sport and El Mundo Deportivo both confirm that Chygrynskiy is the only defender Guardiola wants to sign before the end of the summer transfer window. If that transfer would not be possible, the Catalan coach would prefer to give the youth players a chance.

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Rafinha was offered to Barcelona by Brazilian sports marketing agency Traffic through players' agents Marcos and Naor Malaquías. Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain would have been in favour of the option to sign the Brazilian right back.

it's actually intriguing that pep is so caught up in chygrynskiy.. makes me wonder how good chygrynskiy is. what's also surprising is that we always want to pay little for midfielders but don't hesitate to pay a lot for defenders, those ways have to change or we might make transfers in the future harder for us to complete at the right price.

Txiqui is obsessed with Traffic, is he getting a lot of money or what?

OK now if you reject the chance to sign TWO EXCELLENT cheap players who are extremely versatile, for a chyhryinskiy who is 25 million, chygryinskiy must be the next becenbauer. i really hope we get him.

so if chygryinskiy is the only defender we are getting, we are not getting a right back...

If we get chignasty...Puyol can backup alves during African cup so that Alves can play DM. Rafa Marquez would also be able to play that position.

i hope the chygryinski deal falls through so that we have more money for midfield transfers as that is the position we are thin on. buying chygrinskiy is foolish unless as anony puts it "he must be the next beckenbaur" we promote fontas and muniesa who i think will be more than capable of playing at the high level. the money that we save will go to buying a player who can cover for busquets during africa nations cup and can also play in the attacking mid field positions. then we get a player who can play on the left wing and up top so that guardiola can use his rotating flanks theory, using messi, ibra, bojan, henry, pedro, and "x"

Dani as a DM?????

Yea, since when have Alves plays DM?

We need to sign Mancini from Inter on loan. He would be a very good solution and cheap as few transfer funds would be required. This should give us an extra option in offence as well

Alves can play as DM, but I don't think Puyol can consistently play RB for a month or two, and besides Alves would have to spend time adapting to that position. But I think the purpose of Chygrynskiy is that during the ANC, he can play DM or he can play CB and Piqué or Marquez play DM.

I have no problem spending big on defenders as there are so few good ones around the world. We have a natural abudance of talent in midfield and attack that spending big on quality defenders is a good investment.

I am not sure of Chiggy's quality. He played very well in the EUFA Cup last season. Pep isn't stupid. We should trust his judgement.

The only thing I know is that we need Right back defender more than Central Back.

Anyway, there is Only 7 days left, and I wonder if there is really a transfer??

The point of getting a central defender is this:

* Gives us 4 good central defenders for the 2 positions.

* Makes Puyol available as backup for Alves when needed.

* Makes it possible for Marquez and Pique to play DM when needed, and moving Yaya to the CM position when needed where we can use Yaya's offensive qualities (shooting, dribbling, passing, strength in the box).

* A central defender will improve our threat in the air on corners and free kicks (we get 15 corners every game but we never score on them!) and makes us better at defending set pieces. Pep has said that he wants the new player to be good in the air, as we have a big weakness there.

Last point:

* With the new central defender giving Pique and Marquez the option of playing in the DM position, we suddenly have and abundance of talent at the 2 CM positions:

CMs: Xavi, Keita, Thiago, Yaya, Iniesta, JDS.

6 good players for 2 positions. And they have different characteristics. This means Iniesta can very often play on the wings. If we get a central defender, it means a new midfielder is not needed at all.
