Catalan sports paper Sport reports that the three muslims in the Barcelona squad - Eric Abidal, Yaya Touré and Seydou Keita - are not taking part in the ramadan, the islamic month of fasting. The three would plan to make up for this later.
Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that, while Touré and Abidal will postpone the ramadan, Keita will try to do it the best he can without endangering his health or physical capacities. He will therefore be more closely monitored by the club's medical staff.

Isn't Ibra moslim, too?
No, he isn't.
He has never disclosed his religion. As far as I know.
I thought Messi was converted Muslim and Henry was muslim....
J/K (I hope this didn't offend anyone)
I thought Abidal was Catholic... Oh well.
Abidal converted because of his wife.
Ibra thinks he's god himself, so he doesn't have to believe in anyone. He just want people to believe in him... ;)
The translation is bloody wrong!
Ramadan is a month of 29/30 days .. those players will fast Ramadan EXCEPT when they have matches , then they will not fast that day & will fast a day of another month
I think this totally different from " not doing ramadan " !
How do you know what they will do, Anony? I read the article in Sport and it just says that they won't do it now but later on. Maybe you have insider info though...
mr groga, i thinnk mr anonymous may be right,
as far as i know, there is nuthing like no doing ramazan, it ful month 29/30 days,in which muslims fast every day.
its quite possible that they fast regularly and except for the days they have matches...but its not unlikely if they dont fast on any of the days, if guardiola wants them to follow strick diet in the training days too...may be they can compensate is by feeding 60 hungry and poor people for every missed roza (day of ramadan)
I'm a muslim too, and i'm not fasting this Ramadan too. For football players it's almost unpossible in the summertime. From 4 in the morning to 8 in the night, from down to sunset, you can't eat, drink, smoke, have a sex and think abouth something wrong. In summertime day is so long, and it's so hard, and if you do some hard body work it's almost unpossible. Ibra is muslim i think, i saw in some interview he sad my religion is Islam.
i'm a muslm and Anonymous said it right.
Good that the players put the club before their religion!
Playing football is NOT an excuse to not fast . You are either a muslim or you are not . Muslims who choose not to fast for their own comvenience are NOT real muslims !!
man its religion every muslim has religion before anythin else nd if they dont fast then its not gd nd just lsn 2 wat anony said hes rite
bosnian_likes_barca > it's too bad not to have _a_ sex troughout the Ramadan ;)
Back to topic, didn't know that Abidal was muslim. He is even born in Lyon, so he must have a muslim family.
Madrid players Benzema and the two Diarras are fasting !!

Who cares? Become a Madrid fan then if it's so important to you...
While im a free thinker, the way i see it is that whats important is what you feel and what you do normally.
So what if you fast during the month and yet doesnt bother to help anyone? Someone who doesnt fast but help ppl on a regular basis is better than someone who fast and do nothing to help others.
Doing something for the sake of doing something is pointless.
Not to mention the fact that fasting during the season WILL affect stuff like training etc.
Not drinking during training and during matches for them will put themselves in danger.
hey guys, lets not mixup two different thing...yeah i m a muslim and i agree with all these people, if u r muslim than there is no choice but to fast, there aint any excuses, if u dont, u can always compensate, either by fasting for 60 days for every missed one or by feeding 60 hungry people for every one.
i m sure all of u must have reasons, but i belong to a place where its get 50 degree hot or even more....if i can play all day long in summers with having a fast, i m sure any one can
and by the way toure, kieta abidal and all 25 +, and i think thats what they have been doing all their lifes, ramadan comes every year and i m dead sure they havn't missed ramadan in all these years
They have enough money to feed 1800 hungry people, so that's settled then.
Barcelona happy, muslims happy, everybody happy!
Fasting Ramadan is one of essential pillars of Islam. Muslim must fast in Ramadan when he's Can. the excuses are hard toil travel and a chronic disease. Or Muslims whose fasting harm them. They feed poor.
otherwise Playing football is not excuse to breakfasting.
Ramadan is a Great opportunity for Muslims to be close to Allah. And it's sad to see Muslims miss this chance! I think they have to find a good plan to make fasting not oppose their training section.
Ramadan Mubarak for All Muslims! :)
What about Henry? Isn't he a muslim?
Religion is a stupid thing that starts nothing but conflicts.
Religions dont start conflicts. Idiots like you do, Tyste.
"Ibra is muslim i think, i saw in some interview he sad my religion is Islam."
He's a atheist.
Well I guess it's up to the players. I think they know how to handle it if they decide to do the Ramadan.
I do know however that there are a lot exceptions to the Ramadan and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some for those that do physical labour in intense heat.
For example it says that you can't drink/eat when the sun is up but if you live close to the northpole you follow specific hours.
In uran they say u can't put yourself in any sickness/dfanger.It is Haraam so i'm gonna backup the lads with this one.
it's not good i think but if they cannt do it than they can fsat everyday excpet the day of the match but if they fast maybe god could bless them more and make us won doing fasting is reallly goood and make u close to god and training when u fast god could make them not feel hungry or thirsty and make them stand them till they eat and drink on the breakfast fast is goood while u r working
@ RUMS. Christianity and Islam are the two biggest conflict starters in world history, not me. Maybe I'm an idiot like you say, but i would rather be an idiot then a religious person. Free thinking, mate!
I'm a Christian and my friends are mostly Moslems but we all agree with Tyste Sven's statement. It has nothing to do with beliefs. Just look at how many "conflicting" reactions this subject has caused.
Tyste, why blame an ideology or religion for human faults? People use and abuse many things for their purposes, whether it is love for someone or religious faith or patriotism (more wars have been fought on purely territorial bases than anything else)...I agree with your free thinking philosophy. We are all entitled to our opinions.
My opinion is that it is not Christianity or Islam that cause conflicts, rather their ability to arouse passion and thus the ability of people to manipulate that passion for their benefit.
As for the fasting issue with Keita, Abidal, and Toure - we do not know their exact situation or what route they are taking - partial fasting, or completely skipping fasting this month, or whatever. We don't know. So we can't judge. But I pray that they are making the right decision (whatever it is) and that they succeed if they have good intentions. (Inshallah that will help them succeed with FC Barcelona as well! :D)
And, Allah (swt) knows best.
Nabeel
Why blame it on an ideology?
Perhaps because ideologies creates differences.
Please keep in mind that this is a football blog, religion forums and blogs can be found all over the internet for interested.
This is a different anonymous...
I am Muslim as well and I have to disagree with the other Anonymous. If fasting directly conflicts with ones livelihood- it can be postponed or replaced.
It is one of the fundamental principles of Islam that faith is between the person and God himself. For you to feel you have the power to judge and label a Muslim or non-Muslim is exactly the arrogant, hypocritical mindset that has led the Muslim world to its modern state. This close-mindedness is also the reason that the true faith has been twisted into something that can commonly be seen as "nothing but violence". I suggest you use this Ramadan to work on your own relationship with God and not put down others...
and now i will apologize for not placing the last comment in different words... I should not have associated all of those criticisms with you (other anonymous). I do disagree with you and I meant what I said- but I should have said it in a softer way
Sorry to those who run this nice blog. I just couldn't help posting my first comment when I saw some of the rather narrow minded reactions from some of the other Barca fans. Anyway I'm a big fan of Yaya.
Note: How not to be anonymous -

i was a barca fan but after i heard that abidal, keita n toure r not fasting coz of club duties they let the people who saw them as ambassadors of islam down. they cud have become good role models for future stars. they let their worldly duties come before their religion. its a disgrace!!!
